What to wear....

Top half
Crop top, leotard, T-shirt - materials that won't restrict your movement. Showing your belly is optional!

Bottom half
Loose fitting trousers or skirt, or leggings. Elastic waist is preferable so garment can sit at pelvic level rather than waist.
A hip scarf of some type will help show off the movement.
We usually dance in bare feet, but some students prefer dance shoes.

What to bring...

A towel or Yoga mat is useful to lie on when we perform stretches at the end of class.

A bottle of water to quench your thirst.

What to expect...

The class format:

Warm up - a general warm up incorporating some bellydance moves and some non bellydance moves.

Technique/choreography - learn the various isolations and moves (some are on the spot, some involve travelling), learn how to put them together, sometimes learn a choreography

Cool Down - stretch out

Don't expect to be able to do everything perfectly the first time! Belly dance is a skilful dance and I have discovered that one lifetime is not long enough to learn everything there is to know!

However, it gets easier week by week and even after one lesson you'll be able to show off a few moves that your friends will recognise as being belly dance!
