We hooked up with a guide named Florentino to take us into the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife RefugeThis is Florentino's house. |
Florentino's neighbor. This is a pretty typical caribbean style home.     | >
Brooke in her rubber boots and Ronald McDonald socks.     |

Looking back towards Manzanillo |
Golden Orb Spider. They were all over the jungle here. |
    |
I couldn't believe Brooke let this thing crawl on her. |
  |
Time for a coconut break. |
  |
Florentino was awesome. He found animals all over and he told us all about the differnt uses of the jungle plants. |
This is a little Poison Arrow frog.     |
This is a bullet ant, very poisonous!     |
This is an Eyelash Viper. We saw 6 or 7 of these, they are responsible for quite a few bites each year. |

Camouflage tree.     |
This is a yellow eyelash viper.     |
This was by far the biggest tree we saw in Costa Rica. You really can't get a good view of how big it is in the picture but it was enormous. It was at least 200 ft high and had huge butress roots that spread out all over.     |
We took a rest at a little farm in the middle of the jungle. This is a cacao fruit. The seeds are used to make chocolate. I thought the fruit was delicious, no one else really cared for it. It had a weird texture but a great flavor, it didn't taste anything like chocolate. |

After hiking for a few hours through the rainforest we came out on a beautiful beach.             |
Florentino found this big Boa Constrictor in a palm tree right above some people lying out on the sand.             |
This is a sloth. We saw 4 sloths on this hike. Most of them were pretty boring, they just looked like a motionless ball of fur. We did find one that was crawling though the trees, it was very fun to watch. We saw both the two toed sloth and the three toed sloth on this hike. |
