Costa Rica Part 2
Hot Springs, Waterfalls, and Kayaks

The hot springs were very nice. A great way to relax after a day of adventure.

There are a few different hot springs you can go to in the area. This one is called Las Fuentes it is run by the same company that runs the famous Tabacon

Las Fuentes is right across the highway from Tabacon. Same water, same lush landscaping but only 1/3 the price and we practically had the place to ourselves.

The hot springs were a river of perfect jaccuzi temperature water heated by the volcano.

After it flows through the pools of Las Fuentes it just flows down the river into the steaming jungle. Very neat.

The morning of day three I got up early and walked around the trails by our hotel. I nearly stepped on this poisonous Jumping Viper The thing almost gave me a heart attack.

This is a Coatimundi we saw outside the hotel. Every morning the hotel puts out fruit in the trees and birdfeeders so you can watch the animals while you eat breakfast.

Here is a shot of the Hotel restaurant. This hotel had a big group of bird watchers staying at it. They were in heaven. We saw a million little colorful tropical birds and a few toucans as well.

Brooke on the hanging bridge. We are setting off on our first waterfall hike of the day.

This is the same shot as the last one but without the flash. It gives you a better idea of what the colors were like in the jungle.

It was an impresive waterfall and we didn't see another person for the entire hike.

After the waterfall hike we packed up and left Arenal for a town called La Virgen on the Sarapiqui river. We stayed at a little bed and breakfast called Rancho Leona

We had so much fun on our first waterfall hike we decided to go to another one.

This was another beautiful waterfall in an incredible jungle and once again we were alone the whole time.

The next morning we went on a kayak trip down the river.

We had a great time! There were some sections with some little rapids and other sections where the water was calm and we just floated along looking at monkeys, iguanas and even a caiman.

A lot of the pictures I took on the Kayak trip didn't turn out and the ones that did don't do it justice. It was absolutely gorgeous! It was also neat because the kayak is so quiet we didn't spook the animals as we drifted by.
