Part 3: The Caribbean >>

The porch of our cabina at Itaita Villas in Punta Uva on the Caribbean.

If I look proud in this picture it's because I climbed up a palm tree and picked that coconut myself. I am such a stud!

Itaita Villas were pretty nice. They had a lot of beautiful flowers all over and it was only about 30 yards down a jungle path to the beach.

The town of Puerto Viejo, about 3 miles from our hotel. It was a fun town with a very reggae/rasta feel to it. The original immigrants to this part of Costa Rica came from Jamaica and alot of the people still speak a very Jamaican English to each other.

The hotel didn't have our reservations when we showed up. They only had the honeymoon suite available. It cost us an extra 20 bones a night but it had a king size bed, an air conditioning unit, and they folded our towels into Love Swans so I guess it was worth it.

A deserted stretch of beach near Manzanillo. Manzanillo is the end of the road, literally. After Manzanillo there is nothing but jungle until you get to the border with Panama about 20 miles away.

Brooke standing in front of the town of Manzanillo. It isn't really much of a town. There is a dive shop, a little market and a big Bar/Restaurant/Hotel called Maxi's where it seemed everyone in town hung out from about 8 in the morning on.

Here I am in the Restaurant at Maxi's taking care of an Orange Fanta.

La Pecora Negra, a fantastic Italian Restaurant. We liked it so much we ate there twice! Each time the Chef came out 2 or three times to check on us and make sure we were enjoying our meal.

On what was suposed to be our last morning in Costa Rica I got up very early and found this group of Howler Monkeys

There were about 8 monkeys and they really put on a show for me, jumping, swinging and howling.

This is a shot from the beach in front of the hotel towards Punt Uva. The beach right here was very rocky down towards the point just a little ways it is perfect soft sand and warm water.

This is a shot a little closer to the point. There is a nice coral reef out there in about 5 feet of water. I was very excited about the snorkeling but unfortunately there was a big storm before we arrived that really stirred the water up. No Bueno.

This was taken from the point looking back towards our hotel. When we first got here the waves were pretty nice, 4-6 ft beach break and perfect for bodysurfing. By the last day they had died down and the snorkeling got a little better, but it was still only about 5ft visibility.

This was taken from out on the point looking down the coast in the opposite direction of our hotel. You can see how the jungle comes down almost to the water. I really can't imagine a prettier beach, and it was prctically deserted the entire time we were there.

Since the snorkeling was so lousy I had to catch the fish to get a good look at them. I caught 4 different species and I have no idea what any of them were. Most were small but I did hook into something big that broke me off in the rocks.

We got bumped off our flight home so the airline put us up in San Jose for a night. The next day we explored the city a bit. It was fun to see, but a half day in San Jose is plenty.
