*The Wave To A Broken Heart*

<3<3Chapter Ten<3<3
Susan watched him in the candlelight, his bronze body moving around the room looking for something. He had woken her, even though he had attempted to be quiet. Her body missed his warmth and the rustling of his clothing had finally woken her. Now, she just wanted to run her hands over his body again and he was so far away at the moment. Susan wanted him!
“Liam?” she whispered breathlessly, but he didn’t seem to notice as he dug through his pants, his shirt and his jacket, muttering something under his breath. He was lost in another world and here she was ready and waiting for him to take her again. She fought a laugh. He was so handsome, so kind…
So hers!
Her only wish was that she was now carrying her lover’s baby…
Her future husband’s child…
“What are you looking for, Liam?” she interrupted him, pushing herself up so that the sheet fell from her chest and settled at her waist. “I miss you over here.”
Liam glanced over at her and groaned; the sight of her bare breasts in the lamp light too much to bear. Some moonlight made it’s way into her room, providing a natural light to add to her beauty. She was trying to kill him, seriously. “Susan, me love, I’m lookin’ for me ring.”
“Your ring?” she asked, grabbing the sheet and pulling it close as she leaned forward. “Liam, leave it until morning…come back to bed…to me.”
“No, a proper proposal needs a ring,” he replied, finally withdrew a small gold band with a tiny diamond from the pocket of his coat. “’ere it is!” He held it up for her to see. “This ring ‘as been in the Fitzgerald family for ‘undreds o’ years. Before I left me Mother put it in me ‘and and told me to give it to the woman I fell in love with. Susan, I love ya,” he neared her, sitting beside her on the bed, “I asked ya if you’d be me wife. If ya answer is still yes, I’d be the ‘appiest man alive.”
She nodded, tears rolling down her cheeks as she give him her left hand. “Yes, Liam Fitzgerald. I’ll be your wife!”
He grinned, sliding the ring onto the third finger of her left hand and kissing it. “I love ya, me lass,” he leaned in and kissed her lightly.
“You do?” her eyes twinkled playfully. “Then show me!”
He groaned and they fell into bed…
Susan moaned when she felt lips on her neck and ear, the warm breath causing little good bumps to appear on her skin. Her head rolled sideways and she groaned. She was having such a lovely dream and here he…
Was waking her with kisses!
Susan smiled as her eyes fluttered open, sparkling baby blues meeting Liam’s brown ones. The smell of coffee, eggs and sausage filled the room and Susan realized just how hungry she was. Her eyes left his for a moment, seeing the tray of food and then returned to his still topless form leaning above hers. Her hands caressed his hard, bronze body unconsciously.
“Morning, love,” Liam smiled, leaning in again to kiss her neck and ear. “Sleep well?”
“Mmm,” she replied, enjoying the feel of his lips on her body. “Do I smell breakfast?”
He chuckled. “Yes, lassie, you were sleepin’ but I was ‘ungry so I ‘ad some brought to us. Would ya like some?”
She nodded, sitting up slightly to look at the cart. There was a tray covered with a silver lid, some silverware and a porcelain teapot. She smiled; he had even remembered the tea. Propping some pillows behind her, Susan rested against the headboard with a sigh. She loved her life…
Love Liam!
Liam grinned at his fiancée. “You’re so beautiful, Susan. I’m so glad I met ya.”
She blushed. “Thank you, I’m rather pleased we had the pleasure of meeting as well,” she giggled slightly. “What did you get for breakfast?”
He revealed the sausage, eggs and muffins he had sent for and then lifted a link from the plate. With his fingers, he brought the meat to Susan’s lips and allowed her to take a bite.
“Mmm,” she sighed as she chewed. “This food tastes so much better than any other meal I’ve ever had. Everything seems better this morning!”
He leaned in and gently kissed her lips. “It is better, Susan, ‘cause we’re together now,” he smiled, popping the rest of the sausage link into his mouth. “I’m the ‘appiest man alive, lassie.”
“Why?” she feigned ignorance.
“’Cause I ‘ave the love o’ me life right here with me and she said she’d be me wife.”
Susan sighed; she loved seeing him so happy, so content. In fact, she loved feeling this happy and content! Never in her entire life had Susan planned to fall in love and marry. She was almost positive her life would have been that of an old maid, but now she was dreaming of a house full of children and life with the man that loved her. “I love you, Liam.”
“And I you lassie,” he kissed her forehead.
“I was thinking we could stay inside today,” Susan offered as she poured her a cup of tea. “There are so many plans we can make, so many things we can talk about that we don’t know about each other. Would you mind?”
He shook his head no. “If fact, I was ‘aving the same idea, love. I was thinkin’ we could be plannin’ the wedding.”
“Oh Liam! I would love that!” She grinned, bright blue eyes shinning back at him adoringly. “After breakfast we can begin to plan! It will be such a grand wedding!”
He laughed. “Anythin’ for me princess.”
“I like that…”
“What?” he asked.
“Princess. I like it when you call me that…I know you mean it with all your heart.”
“I do,” he promised. “I mean it from the bottom of my ‘eart.”
She sighed. This was the life. Liam fed her a bite of the eggs on the plate before eating some of his own. Their eyes locked, then, and they leaned in to share a kiss. Liam pulled back quickly, wanting to get some food into her before the unavoidable happened. Before she could protest, they shared more of the breakfast and another kiss. The pattern continued until the plate was cleared and all thoughts of talking were long gone. Both fell back against the sheets and hastily removed whatever clothing barred them from touching each other. In no time they were making love again.
Hours later, Susan and Liam were still snuggled in bed, a group of papers settled in their laps as they discussed the wedding. Of course, their talking was accompanied by the occasional touch to the other’s bared skin and then a kiss that would slowly escalate. Actually, little talking had been done because each good idea was celebrated with such…ferver…that they never got very far. What they had discussed was when they wanted the wedding to be. Susan wished to marry soon, foregoing the traditional affair until Liam was further established in America. She knew her father would disapprove; in fact, she could bet on it. Still, she wanted to marry and she assumed that just jumping in blindly would be their best bet. Liam had only one wish: to grant her any dream. When she said that she wanted a marriage as soon as humanly possible, he replied by saying that they could look into any preachers on board the ship. That remark had reminded Susan of something she had been told by the Captain. “Liam, I just had a grand idea!” she grinned, looking at her fiancé. “What’s that, lass?” he asked, flipping through the pages they had formerly written on, or rather rolled around upon. So much for neat lists of things they wanted to accomplish, had to do and wanted to know about each other. “We can have the Captain marry us,” she replied nonchalantly, picking up her pencil and jotting something down on a piece of rumpled paper. “What?” he looked at her, forgetting he original search of the scraps. She wasn’t looking at him when she explained, “The Captain has the right to marry us at sea. He can perform the ceremony for us before we even dock in New York harbor! Wouldn’t it be grand to be married before we land in America?” Pausing only a minute to consider the option, Liam nodded, thinking about marrying her in the suit she had torn apart in her haste to make love the night before. Liam smirked; what better way to celebrate their love than to be married on board the ship that had united them? “I love the idea, me love. A marriage aboard the floatin’ Cupid.” She giggled. “So we should see the Captain soon for a wedding date.” He looked at the clock beside him on the nightstand. “I doubt we’ll find ‘im today, lassie. It’s nearly seven.” “At night?” she squeaked, looking past him at the clock and then out the small window in her room. “Liam! It’s night already!” He laughed. “I know.” “Liam! We missed an entire day…” He could tell she was distraught and placed a hand to her cheek. “Susan, we were busy love. Calm down.” “But…” He kissed her. “Susan, we were together, lassie.” She sighed. He did have a point. “All right. I’m sorry. I’ve never stayed in bed all day before.” “We were busy,” he replied. She blushed causing him to laugh. “Why don’t I have Annette call for some supper and then we can…retire?” she offered. He smiled. “I rather like that idea.” She nodded, getting up and grabbing her robe, giving Liam time to appreciate the view of her backside. He whistled. “Perfect!” She blushed, quickly dressing. He laughed. “Love you, Susan…” “And I you, Liam,” she blew him a kiss and left the room. Tabby couldn’t believe her rotten luck. Liam and Susan hadn’t been seen at all on the ship that day and she was positive she knew what they had been doing. Rotten brats! How could they do this to her? Did they realize they were ruining her life? Honestly! And Timmy! He was some help! She had found him passed out in a closet, a glass of his concoction in his hand. Stupid doll! How was she supposed to get anything accomplished if he was going to insist on being inebriated so often? And the spirits weren’t being of much assistance recently. They had told her to reread her book of disasters CAREFULLY. Like she had time to read a three thousand-page manual of witchcraft! She had to get those two separated before she lost all of her remaining powers!!! Looking over at her stuffing for brains companion, who was fast asleep in the armchair, she huffed. Guess she was going to get more reading done than she thought. Opening the book, she started reading slowly… “Welcome to the wonderful world of Natural Disaster Spells…” Great! Just what she needed now, a sarcastic book! With a final sigh, she settled in for a long read.
<3<3Chapter Eleven<3<3 Susan rolled over, her arms reaching for the warm body beside her. Instead, she encountered the cold sheets. Her eyes shot open and she lifted the comforter in search of her fiancé. He wasn’t there. Slowly sitting up, she wiped the sleep from her eyes and looked around the room for him, but Liam just wasn’t there. His shoes and shirt were, but not Liam. With a sigh, she sank back under the covers. There was a terrible draft coming in through the nearby window that was worse than frigid… It was unbearably frozen. Susan sighed. Why was it so cold in April? She wanted it to be warm so they could enjoy the decks! It was impossible to enjoy a walk outside when your nose was ready to fall off from the frosty air. Liam had been terribly sweet, holding her in his arms and trying his best to keep her warm. But still, she couldn’t wait to reach Harmony. It would be cool, but before long it would be summer and they could enjoy walks along the Harmony shoreline. Then they could start building a family and buy a little house of their own to fill with children. Susan sighed contently; she and Liam were going to have a wonderful life together once the boat docked. She could hardly wait. Looking to her left, she found her watched and lifted it to her eyes. Eleven Am… “Eleven!” she shrieked, jumping out of bed with the comforter still wrapped around her body. She may need to get dressed but there was no way she was losing the only warmth she currently had in the room. Just then, the door opened and Liam stepped in. He started laughing when he spotted his fiancée digging through her trunk for some clothing while still huddled beneath the giant white blanket. “Cold, love?” “Yes!” she pouted. “What happened to the fireplace?” He lifted the large pail beside her. “Wood. They ain’t magical, me love.” She groaned. Everyone knew you needed wood for a fire. “Well…why isn’t someone building a fire for us?” “’Cause I gave ‘em the mornin’ off so we could be alone. But I’ll build us one, love.” He carried the wood to the fireplace and set it up for a fire. “Why don’t ya get dressed, love, then we can find the Captain.” “Oh! I nearly forgot! Liam, how could you let me sleep so late? What if the Captain is too busy?” “We’ll be married, lassie. Just be calm.” She sighed. “Hard to be calm,” she went to him, wrapping her blanket-covered arms around him. Her head rested against his back and she sighed. “I can hardly wait to marry you as it is. I don’t know how calm I’ll be when the time is truly here.” “Don’t worry, lass, we’ll be fine. I love ya, Susan.” “I love you too, Liam.” “Now, go get dressed ‘n we’ll be off to find the Captain.” She nodded and kissed his cheek. “Be ready before you can count to five,” she rushed off. He chuckled and shook his head. She was an amazing woman but sometimes she was so very childlike in her excitement. But honestly, it made him love her more. He looked over at the screen where she was dressing. Even though they were engaged, and lovers, she refused to dress in front of him. Her modesty was endearing, her heart made of gold and her beauty unparalleled… And that’s why she had to be his wife. In no time, Susan and Liam were both bundled up in their coats and walking along the decks to find the Captain. They had tried everywhere they could think of and found nothing. When they did inquire about his whereabouts from others, they were simply sent off to another area of the ship and still they hadn’t found the Captain. “Liam, I’m getting cold. I don’t know how much longer I can bare to walk out here,” she shivered, her face pink from the frosty air. “It’s so cold.” Liam slid his arm around her shoulders. “I know, me lass, why don’t ya be goin’ inside ‘n waitin’ for me?” “But Liam, you’ll be cold out here too and I will miss you far too much,” she pouted, but it lasted only a second before she buried her face in the side of his coat. “Why is it so cold?” “I think we ‘eaded a li’l further north, me love. Colder up ‘ere.” “Well that was a silly idea if you ask me,” Susan replied with a groan, peeking into a nearby window. “Liam! Look! The Captain!” Liam looked into the window and smile. “That ‘e is, lass. Let’s go see ‘im.” Susan didn’t have to be told twice as she grabbed Liam’s hand and dragged him into the warm room. The Captain was talking to one of the first mates, who looked VERY familiar to Susan. She didn’t know why, but that man gave her the creepiest feeling. He was handsome, so it really wasn’t his looks, but more like the aura surrounding him. He just seemed…scheming! “You ok?” Liam asked, looking over at his fiancée. “You stopped so suddenly.” “Fine,” she replied, turning her gaze to him and kissing his lips. “I’m wonderful now.” The Captain cleared his throat. “Can I help you two?” Susan blushed and looked over at him. “Captain.” “Miss Crane!” he bowed slightly. “What can I do for you miss?” “Captain, my fiancé and I were wondering if there was a chance you could perform our wedding ceremony aboard the ship before we dock in New York Harbor.” “I would be honored, Miss Crane!” he smiled, walking over to his book and checking the log. “But I’m afraid it couldn’t be until tomorrow morning…at say six?” “A sunrise wedding!” she grinned. “It sounds glorious! Will you really do it?” He laughed at her giddiness. “Of course, Miss Crane. It would be the finest day of my entire career as a captain…to finish my voyage by marrying a couple that appears to be so in love as you two.” “Thank you,” she hugged him and blushed. Her exuberance was certainly contagious as he began to laugh again. “You’re welcome. Why don’t you go into the dinning room and celebrate? I’ll have the chef prepare something special for you both.” Susan giggled happily. “I think that would be a fine idea. Come on, Liam,” she grabbed his arm and dragged him away again, both of them laughing as they exited the room. From the darkened corner, Brandon watched as Susan and Liam left. His blue eyes darkened with anger. That old witch was toast! Susan and Liam spent the remained of the day snuggling before the fire with a cake made for them specifically. The vanilla cake was frosted white with small blue flowers and small blue letters that read Congratulations S and L. Susan had thought it was the cutest thing she had ever seen, almost refusing to eat the crafted concoction. But Liam, well he was hungry and the beautiful cake looked appetizing…especially when he cut into it and saw how wonderful it looked. And that was the end of the cake. They had fed each other forkfuls and even started a food fight, removing the crumbs from each other with their mouths. It had quickly reached a fevered pitch until the two of them ended up beneath Susan’s comforter making love. Afterwards, they talked about how wonderful their life together would be when they arrived in Harmony. How they would buy a quaint little cottage somewhere and plant a delightful garden with roses… She loved roses! Then they would have a family, three boys and three girls and a dog. Every family needed a pet! His family would come from Ireland and they would all live in the small little Maine town and celebrate holidays together. They even discussed Christmas and how they would have a tree and presents and a feast for the families… Should her father discover a heart and decide that he would allow her to be happy just once. And when they finished talking, they dreamed about the future until nearly nine, when the two of them decided to get some fresh air. Despite the cold, the couple dressed as warmly as they could, pulling their coats tightly against their skin, before walking hand in hand to one of the other decks. And then they danced… Right there in the cold, on the moonlight deck Susan and Liam danced. His arms were wrapped around her waist, hers around his neck and they swayed to a music all their own. He twirled her, then pulled her close, resting his chin on the top of her head, his eyes closed as they swayed gently. He began to hum a love song his mother once taught him; one that he hadn’t even thought of until now. “That’s such a pretty tune,” she whispered against his chest, the steady beating of his heart offering comfort. “Me mother used t’ be singin’ it t’ me ‘n me sister, Colleen.” “Do you remember the words?” she asked. He nodded and cleared his throat. Which I gaze on so fondly today Were to change by tomorrow and fleet in my arms Like the fairy gifts fading away Though would’st be adored as this moment thou art Let thy loveliness fade as it will And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart Would entwine itself verdantly still It is not while beauty and youth are thine own And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear That the fervor and faith of a soul can be known To which time will but make thee more dear No the heart which has truly loved never forgets But as truly loves on to the close As the sunflower turns on her guard when he sets The same look which she turned when he rose”*** “That was beautiful Liam. Will you teach it to me?” she looked into his eyes, her blue ones begging him to say yes. He nodded and taught her the song line by line until she was singing it to him as they danced. They took turns, time to time singing a duet as they hummed and sang the song that seemed so perfect for them. It didn’t matter what the words said; it was something else that connected them with that song. Perhaps it was the history or perhaps it was because Liam had sung it to her, but it was their song and that’s at that mattered to either of them. They continued to dance, every move absolutely perfect as they twirled along the decks. It was a night they would forever remember… And as the time neared midnight, the morning of their wedding, the low cackle of Tabitha as she cast her spell on the Titanic wasn’t heard; the pathetic begging of her little doll beside her being lost in the cold air… And at 11:40pm, the Titanic hit the iceberg that Tabby summoned, jerking the ship as ice fell to the deck, crumbling near Susan and Liam… ***[The famous Neil Gwynn sang this song during the rein of Charles II. Moore, who identified the tune to this song, married Bessy Dyke in 1811 in London. Whatever looks she may have had were ruined by a skin disease after they had been married for some time, and she feared as a result she might lose his affection. His reply was to write for her one of the most beautiful love songs of all times as reassurance. For more info, or to hear the tune go to Believe Link]
<3<3Chapter Twelve<3<3 “Susan!” Liam grabbed her arm, holding her close. “We ‘ave to get out o’ ‘ere.” He was relatively calm, but he inside he was scared and unsure. “Liam?” she shook with terror. “What is wrong?” Liam looked down at where the ship rubbed against the iceberg. “We ‘it, love. ‘N I ain’t waitin’ t’ see if we sink.” Susan threw her arms around Liam. “Liam, there aren’t enough boats for everyone on board,” her eyes teared. “What if…” He covered her lips with his fingers, looking into her eyes. “Don’t say goodbye, Susan. We’ll make it, I promise.” She nodded, clinging to his hand. “What do we do?” He shrugged as someone neared them. Some nameless crewmate on the giant ship stopped and glared at the two. “Put these on!” he demanded, thrusting two life jackets at them. Liam took one and helped Susan slide it on over her dress and coat before putting his own on. “Susan, we need t’ find a lifeboat ‘n get you onto it,” he cupped her face in his hand. “No matter what you ‘ave t’ try ‘n make it ‘ome.” “Liam…” “Promise me.” “I promise,” she whispered, kissing his lips hard. She pulled away from him. “All right, let’s see how we can both make it off this ship.” He smiled slightly and dragged her along the decks to where one of the lifeboats were beginning to take on passengers. The first boat was already filled and another was quickly being loaded with people and lowered towards the ocean. He wasn’t sure if there would be enough boats for even the people standing in line! Still, Liam looked around for one that showed space enough for both of them, but most were insisting that women and children get on first. He watched as a man handed a crewmember some money for a seat on the boat. That wasn’t going to happen for him so he realized that he might as well face the truth and let Susan go… “Susan, I don’t think I’m goin’ t’ get on any o’ these love.” “Liam,” she realized what that meant. “Don’t worry, I’ll get on the very next one. I promise.” He moved her towards an open boat. “No!” she protested, trying to stop him. “I won’t leave you here.” “Susan!” he insisted. “Go!” “NO!” she shrieked. He kissed her hard, causing her to pant for air when they pulled apart. “Listen t’ me, lass. I will be on a boat! Just go ‘n we’ll meet up before we dock!” “Promise?” she begged. “O’ course. Now go!” She sighed, tears rolling down her cheeks. “All right.” He handed her to a crewmate. “Susan, I love you.” “I love you too, Liam,” she blew him a kiss as the boat began to be lowered onto the water. He watched, knowing that this could very well be his last day on earth, his last time with her. The sounds around him faded away as their eyes met. He read such sorrow in her beautiful blue orbs. “LIAM!” he heard her whimper. He closed his eyes for a moment, but in that time Susan’s small boat capsized, sending his true love into the icy waters surrounding the sinking vessel. Her skirts immediately became to heavy and pulled her beneath the dark purple waves. “LIAM!” she screamed as she emerged before sinking again. He could hear her voice over the commotion around him. His eyes shot open just as she sank below the water. “SUSAN!” he cried. Not caring how far up he was, Liam dove into the water below, searching for Susan. His life was nothing without her and he refused to let her die while there was breath in his body. He surfaced; not finding her below he took a break and dove under again. His arms finally caught her, pulling her to the surface along with him. Both gasped for air. “Liam,” she shivered, her blue lips chattering. The water was especially cold on her milky white skin. “Susan, ‘old on love,” he begged, pulling her towards a ship nearby. She clung to his arm as they neared the small wooden vessel, barely filled with people. Liam immediately recognized the crewman manning this ship. It was the first mate he had seen a number of times, a man he had noticed eyeing his Susan. But now that didn’t matter if it meant she would live. Brandon feigned worry as he looked at the pair. “Hand her to me,” he reached down, helping Susan into the boat and shooing some of the other women out of the way. Liam reluctantly released her body. “Li…Liam?” she chattered as the first mate wrapped a blanket around her shoulders. She reached for her fiancé, not caring who saw. She refused to be without him. He started to climb in, trying his best not to tip the boat. “No room, sir,” Brandon placed a hand on his shoulder. “Find another boat.” Liam knew this was a lie, but he couldn’t fight him. Not here…not now. He swallowed hard, looking once more at his pale fiancée, trying to burn her image on his mind, in his heard and on his soul. “All right. Promise me you’ll be lookin’ after me fiancée.” “I will, sir. I’ll make sure she survives.” Liam caught Susan’s eyes. “Love you.” “Liam!” she cried. “No!” But Liam began to drift away as the icy cold water pulled him beneath. “Liam!” Susan screamed for him. “No! Save him please!” she begged the first mate, clinging to his jacket. “Please save him! I love him!” she cried. But nothing worked. “Please Lord, spare my Liam!” she sobbed, not hearing the cackles of Tabby from a nearby boat. Susan collapsed, sobbing so violently that she shook and a nearby woman held her close to keep her from diving back in. Brandon refused to let her leave his sight, even when they were placed on another boat to be brought to America. He remembered his promise to Liam, even if his intentions were purely selfish. And as Susan sat on the boat heading home, she felt her soul actually cry and the pain of losing Liam repeatedly over the centuries flashed in her mind. Some say they could actually hear her heart breaking there on the boat as Susan mourned the lost of her loving Liam whom she would never see again. Susan realized that his death occurred after midnight on the morning they were to be wed…
<3<3Epilogue<3<3 Nine months after the Titanic disaster, Susan obtained her dream of being a mother and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy that she named for his father. The tiny baby looked just like his father and Susan knew that Liam would have been proud of his firstborn son. Little Liam, however, died suddenly exactly four days after his birth; ironically only three months shy of the one-year anniversary of his father’s death. Susan was devastated to lose the only tangible link she had with her lost fiancé. During her pregnancy, she had sent for her household servants and items from England so that she could set up a household in the hills of Harmony, much like the one she and Liam had planned of the night the ship sank. After that was complete, she sent for her fiancé’s family in Ireland, asking them to join her in America. They came, using Susan as their last tangible link to their beloved Liam. Colleen and Caitlyn, Liam’s sister and mother respectively, had looked forward to the birth of Liam’s only child. They too were distraught when the baby passed away. Susan mourned the death of her fiancé and child until her own death. She was only thirty when she left this earth. Some say it was because she had been weak, other’s because she hadn’t been taking care of herself, but the Fitzgerald’s knew the truth. “She died o’ a broken ‘eart,” Caitlyn would tell everyone that listened and some agreed. Susan had never been the same after losing Liam. Not even the love of Brandon, the first mate, could make Susan put aside her pain. Instead, it added to her depression because she knew that she would never love again. Her heart had gone down with Liam… Still to this day in the Fitzgerald cottage you can hear the rocking chair creak in the mid-afternoon, much like it did when Susan would rock in it to sing to her unborn son. The words of the song Liam had taught her sweetly filling the afternoon air, followed by her sobs. And yet in heaven the song is still sung by the souls of two lovers that left this earth before their journey was truly complete. And there they watch their son, who will forever be the babe they could cherish together. There, far above the earth, Susan, Liam and Little Liam play in the clouds, watching over his family and waiting for their chance to return… Their chance to complete the cycle of lovers that deserve the chance to have it all… Love…marriage and family… And they shall one day return as Sheridan and Luis…
