The Morning After

Sunlight streamed through the house, as the weary partygoers were trying to ignore the morning. For 99% of them, they had just crashed out a mere two or three hours ago. Someone had turned on some light trance music, which was still playing when Ben woke up. He started to sit up, but came to some difficulty. He looked down to his stomach, which Sarah had been using as a pillow. He smiled, remembering everything that had happened last night. To think, 24 hours ago, he had paged Daniel telling him that he needed to talk about his lack of girlfriend. Now here he was, with an amazing girl, sleeping on his stomach. He'd have to thank Ash for having this party.
Daniel turned in his sleep, which, in turn, meant kicking Nic in the head. "Ow!" she said groggily. Now was not the time to be waking up. A quick glance at her pager, which read 7:39 AM, confirmed this thought. She stretched her body out, repositioned and closed her eyes, trying to go back to sleep. Moments later, however, the wonderous kicking of Daniel prevented her from sleeping. Finally, after being kicked for the fourth time, she decided that it now was time to get up.

Nic wandered around the house, she saw everyone was pretty much still asleep. Lucky bastards, she thought. She made her way to the kitchen, where she saw Kayt sitting on the floor, next to the fridge. There was a small glass in her hands, with a brown liquid in it. "Hello Nic..." Kayt said, somewhat slurred. Nic frowned. "Chris told me you had started to walk home." Kayt definitely was not what she wanted to see first thing this morning. The added effect of her head throbbing wasn't making this experience any better.

"Oh Nic.. I did. And I was home. I laid down to sleep, but then, as I do every night, I went to kiss my stuffed frog that Chris won for me at a faire, and just the sight of it made me cry, and I decided that I had felt horrible about this whole mess with Chris. So I had to come back here, find him, and tell him how sorry I was. Well, I came back, and he was asleep." Kayt grabbed at Nic's arm and started to whisper. "Oh Nic... Chris looks like a cherub when he sleeps... it's so amazing. I was thinking of waking him up and telling him how angelic he looks. And I even wrote him a three page poem while I watched him sleep." Nic smelled liquor on Kayt's breath. She leaned back and nodded. Kayt was competely wasted.

"Ya know, Kayt, I'm thinkin' it would be best to leave Chris alone. Read him the poem later, okay?" Kayt nodded and leaned back. Nic stood up and started to walk away. Her next stop: hunting down Chris.

In the same closet that had shown Ben and Sarah a delightful time, Chris and Jamie were sitting, quietly talking. Jamie had gone into Ash's closet, looking to replace some bloody clothes of hers, when she had run into the sleeping Chris. Chris had woken up, and started to profusely apologize to Jamie, who had told him that she "enjoyed being beaten up by jealous girlfriends". That remark had made Chris laugh, so he figured it was time to get to know Jamie.

"So, Jamie, tell me about you." he said. She laughed. "Do you honestly want to know about me, Chris?" he looked at her. Did he really want to know her? She smiled at him seductively. No, he decided he didn't give a fuck about her. All he knew was that she was attractive, she was pretty talented sexually... and most importantly, she wasn't Kayt.

"Well.. I was trying to be nice. But now that you mentioned it..." he smiled slyly at her. "Kayt went home." Those were the magic words. Jamie leaned over and kissed Chris lightly on the lips. He smiled. "Shall we continue what we were doing before?" She smiled and they did indeed continue.

A few hours later, around noon, everyone pretty much started waking up and heading out. Ash stood by the door, saying goodbye to everyone.

"Ash, I had quite a delightful time.. yet another one of your wonderful parties." Nic said, with Daniel standing behind her, eyes almost completely closed. Ash nodded towards Daniel. "What's with him?" she whispered. Nic shrugged. "He was in the oddest mood all night. He kept talking about elves and orange socks." Ash opened her eyes wide. "Nic... did Daniel run into Acid Star?" Nic frowned. Acid Star, aka Shelly, was Merewether's famed drug addict girl. 99% of the time, she was on acid or stoned. She was a small brunette girl, very innocent looking. Nic turned to Daniel. "Johnsy, did you talk to Acid Star?" Daniel opened his eyes somewhat. "Wha....?" he asked slowly. Nic kissed him on the cheek. "Go back to sleep." She turned to Ash and nodded. "I'll bet he did." Ash shook her head. "He'll be out of it for the next day or so. She usually has stuff that will fuck you up royally." Nic nodded. "What an arse. He's got to meet with Watto tonight, and he definitely can't do it in this condition. Fuck." She pulled Daniel along with her. "I'll ring you later, Ash. Hooroo!" Nic and Daniel made their way out.

Sarah and Ben were the next to leave. Ash smiled at Sarah. "So it appears that you had quite a lovely time." Sarah blushed slightly. "I can't thank you enough Ash. You made my weekend, definitely. I haven't thought about Randy or anyone at all." Ben glanced at Sarah. "Who's Randy?" she turned and smiled. "Aw, Randy's my ex-boyfriend. We broke up because I moved here and we decided it would be too hard to keep a relationship going." Ben frowned a bit, and Sarah noticed. "But I'm sure there's someone here that will definitely keep me happy." She kissed his cheek and he was once again smiling. Ash smiled. "That's wonderful then. I'm glad to have met you, dear. You have my number, right?" Sarah nodded. "Then you two have a lovely time with whatever you plan to do." Sarah and Ben grinned and walked out the door.
Chris woke up, the sunlight warming his body. He looked around. Jamie was no longer in the closet with him. All that remained of her was a little note on his chest which said "Ring me up sometime" and her phone number. He stood up and started walking towards the stairs, when he stopped dead in his tracks.

"Yeah, Ash, thanks for the headache stuff. I guess I drank way too much last night.." Kayt's voice trailed off. Chris quickly sat down. What was Kayt doing here still? She had left hours ago. If he came down now... oh she'd have a million things to say to him. He figured it was in his best interests to just stay upstairs... and listen.

"Ash, what should I do? Chris was fucking around with that Jamie chick. I can't believe he'd do something like that. I love him so much, I can't bear to be without him. But what he did was horrible to me! I just don't know.." Kayt's voice waivered, sounding close to crying. He looked down the stairs to see Ash hugging Kayt. "It'll be okay, hun. Just go home and get some sleep and call Chris later tonight." Kayt pulled back and smiled. "Thanks, doll. Hooroo!" Kayt slowly started to leave. Ash closed the door behind her.

Chris, taking it that the coast was clear, started down the stairs. Ash shot him a glance. "And the prize for the most fucked up party-goer goes to... Chris Joannou! Let's give him a round of applause!" Ash started clapping and Chris smiled. "Yeah, well. It was.. interesting." Ash was about to say something, when Chris held up his hand. "Save it for later, Ash. I'm going home to sleep. Then I'll call Kayt later. I have some thinking to do." Ash nodded and opened the door for Chris. He walked out to his car, and drove off. Ash closed the door, then turned to look at the mess of her house.

"Thank god for maids..." she said, pulling out the number of her family's maid service.
