On the Med When it seemed that I’d never get to France, I sent for France to come to me in the form of the first of several French lycée students who would spend a month in my home in the United States during the summer months in the 1990's. One of the students, Valérie, came back a second year, and the following summer, in 1996, I visited her home in Montpellier. Following a breakfast of pains aux chocolats (délicieux beyond description!), a Sunday afternoon on the Mediterranean Sea. |
À l’Épicerie The grocery stores in Montpellier were amazing to me. Instead of buying a jar of sweet basil, one buys the entire plant, still alive, in a pot....Aisles and aisles of cheeses...Deliciously fresh produce...and the latest in technology to go along with it all. |
Dinner at
Ségo’s Here we are, on our way to Ségolène’s flat for an evening of delicious food and fun. My first and only moped ride. |
Waterlilies (Les Nénuphars) I took this photo in Montpellier, France, in 1996, at the Jardin des Plantes, more than 400 years after Henri IV gave the garden to the University of Montpellier's Faculty of Medicine for botanical studies. |
