The SC Cooking Show
Blizz's sense of humor in games is well known. SC is no different. Saw this email at SC.Org and thought I'd share. Yeah, I know, Mom taught me well :)

Choose to start the Terran Campaign and let the briefing finish. Then don't do nothing, and the computer will ask you if you're there, if you're okay and so. If you wait a little more you'll get the computer telling you to start with different sentences, and finally you'll get the ingredients for a food recipe (I think it was chicken or duck). Antonio I.M.
Heads up Webmasters
SC Org has opened it's community news section. Webmasters can go and post about their sites, special things going on, advertise if they need help, etc... Pretty cool really. Check it out here.

SC Pics from 1996
Q-B.A scanned some SC pics from an old 1996 PC Gamer. I've stuck them up in the Archives section. View then here. Doesn't even look like the same game. [news source - SCLegacy]

The Hit and Run Maneuver
Calbear over at SC Extreme has put up a new strat covering "hit and run" tactics to increase your ranged units' effectiveness against melee units. Check it out here.

The Antioch Chronicles
I recived this in email about the new single player Antioch Chronicles Campaign. It rocks! Get all the info on them and download them at The Official Antioch Chronicles Web Site :

Last night I downloaded the Antioch Chronicles and so far they are great, they are extremely professionaly done and the speech is something else. So far I have played the first 4 or 5 maps and they are excelent! They are highly recomemded! Although I have a cable modem it was a good idea to break them down into 3 seperate files, 10, 6, and 5megs I think, saves a lot of time. - KillRazor
Urban Assault Gold
I saw this a couple days ago and forgot to meantion it :0 Urban Assault has gone gold and should start shipping in mid August.

Starcraft News for July 17th

Ummmm Errrrr, Well they're Different
Next Generation asked readers to send in ideas for GT Interactive's upcoming Beavis and Butthead. They say they ended up with "a bulging e-mail tray and some twisted responses." They weren't kidding either, and they've put together an article covering some of the more interesting responses here.

Q2 Mission Pack: The Reckoning Reviewed
Is it all it should be? find out in GamePens review here.

Battlezone Patch v1.31 Released
The patch adds graphic enhancements for AGP and 3Dfx video cards, new multi-player enhancements, and fixes all known bugs. All full versions of Battlezone will now be compatible for multi-player games. Grab the patch and get more info here.

Protoss Unit Analysis
Infoceptor has posted the stats on unit damage for the Protoss. Read it here. This completes the posts on all the races now. Don't forget to check out the Terran Unit Analysis and the Zerg Unit Alanlysis. Also noticed that Infoceptor has their forums up now. Go thank em for all their hard work :)

New Diablo II Section at Blizz's Page
In the legends section Blizz has added the Designer Diaries. It's hosted by Gamespot and the first entry is an interview with Blizzard North President David Brevik. Entries will be made on a monthly basis.

#1 Ladder player Reams B.Net
Agent 911, the current leader on the b.net ladder absolutely reams b.net and the ladder system. Now you can get pissed at him if you want but he makes some very valid points and the post is definitely worth the read. Hope Blizz reads this one too. The thread created by this post is huge.[news source - Shafes]

The Sickos
So you like to see things go BOOOOOM! Dioxide's your man then. He's just put up some animated gifs of exploding/imploding Marines Hydralisks and Dragoons. Ok fellow sicko, check em out here.

B.Net Icons
Infoceptor put a pic up of all the B.net icons. Warlock extracted them using the MPQ Viewer. Kinda interesting, I haven't seen all these yet on b.net. The sunglasses and megaphone look kinda, err, out of place.

Medic Info
Pat N made a post on the BW Medic. She will be able to heal stimpack damage. That's really about all that was new in the post but u can read it all here if you want.

Protoss Explorers Screens
Quickshot14 has posted 4 screenshots from the new Protoss Explorers campaign he is working on. He also writes the Terran & Protoss War Campaigns. Check the new screens out here.

SC Disconnectors Database Opens
There's a new site open. You can find all the disconnectors here, verified and non-verified. Even has a place to report ppl. I kinda hate to see this, *visions of big brother watching and personal vendettas carried out*, but I know some of you might be interested in this info so i'm reporting it. Personally, I just don't take the game that seriously. I play to have fun, not build my record. Course, if I was into the ladder I guess I might feel different... [news source - SC Legacy]

Warcraft II Platinum Page
Blizz has put up an official page for it now. If u haven't seen it check it out here. Don't be fooled by those screenshots and cutscenes, they're from Tides of Darkness and the WarChest.

Download Expedition
SCM of the Week
Blizz has released the new SCM. Here's part of the teaser for it - The darkest days in the history of the Protoss were shortly before the departure of the Dark Templar, when the barely reunited tribes began to fight once more. Old vendettas and ancient prejudices were reborn as the Protoss who refused the way of Khala were branded as traitors and hunted down. Grand battles scarred the surface and many bold warriors were slain in massive engagements. This map allows you to recreate those epic campaigns, and see how the presence of Terran and Zerg forces might have mixed things up. Download it here. (255k)
256x256 Jungle World (Huge!)
Designed for 4-8 Players

StarHack is Back!
Glad to see it Mark! :) No Blizz never shut him down, it was server problems, eh or the lack there of. :) Check out the site and get the details here.

Brood War: Lurker
The Lurker will only be able to attack while burrowed, sending deady spikes ripping thru the earth at it's unsuspecting enemies. hehehe Nice :) Although it can only attack ground units, it can be a very effective defensive unit. Can you say "We was ambushed Sarge!" Read Pat N's post here.

Downloading BattleChat ver3.0 Errors
Some ppl have mailed me that they are unable to d/l BattleChat and others seemed to do it fine. hmmm.. If you've had problems, download it here. I've changed the links so everything should be fine now.

More Brood War info
Remember EnoYls from the beta days? Well he's back posting in the forums, divuldging (sp?) little secrets on Brood Wars. Info on several of the units here. Info on the Corsair here.

More on the Dropped Lawsuit
Gamespot posted a followup on the lawsuit, this time talking with Driscoll. Nothing earth shattering, but if your interested read it here.

Antioch Chronicles
I told ya'll about the Antioch Chronicles a couple days ago. A very cool sounding campaign. Here's an email from the author that will explain a little more about the chronicles.

Greetings.

For those of you who do not know me, the name's Auspex Turmalis. This mailing is an open invitation to all major StarCraft webmasters (with apologies to anyone who I may have left out) to come check out The Antioch Chronicles, THE StarCraft single-player campaign event of the summer.

STOP RIGHT THERE. I know what you may be thinking. "Great, yet ANOTHER campaign. How boring." Wrong, friends. The Antioch Chronicles has something few (if any) other player-created campaigns have: polish, polish, and more polish. Episode I of The Antioch Chronicles, entitled Psionic Storm, has already started receiving rave reviews from those who have played it, and that list continues to grow daily.

This new Protoss campaign features full-voice mission briefings, in-game dialogue, and new hero unit sounds, plus an engaging storyline with plot twists galore. One recent critic called the campaign "Blizzardish," while countless others have responded in their own way with cheers of appreciation and enthusiasm.

But don't take their word for it--see for yourself, and THEN spread the word! I DARE you to walk away from this campaign dissatisfied. Here are a few pieces of trivia concerning the campaign:

  • The briefings are made up of 50 WAV files, totalling 29.7mb, uncompressed.
  • The in-game dialogue accounts for 61 WAV files, totalling 16.4mb, uncompressed.
  • New sound effects account for 9 WAV files, totalling 1.67mb, uncompressed.
  • New unit sound responses are made up of 77 WAV files, totalling 8.26mb.
  • Including the new sounds (compressed), the 9 SCM files weigh in at 14.4mb.
  • The campaign includes over 18 minutes of new briefings and in-game dialogue.
  • The whole package takes up approximately 22.66mb (22.2mb, zipped).
Yes, the campaign is a 22mb download, but Blizzard's Diablo 2 and Brood War trailers were larger than that, and countless players downloaded them. Thankfully, Episode I of The Antioch Chronicles has been split up into three separate ZIP files for easier downloading, weighing in at 10.9mb, 5.2mb, and 6.17mb, respectively. In addition, the campaigns will soon be available on a mirror FTP site for even greater accessibility. The campaign is free, as you might expect. The only thing I ask as the author is that players spread the news, and that they not modify the campaign in any way.

Again, I personally invite each of you as StarCraft webmasters to take a look into The Antioch Chronicles. Once you have seen what others have seen, you can spread the word first-hand instead of relying on what "someone wanting to hype his or her site" tells you. I am confident that you will find much to rave about (even though the campaign can't be perfect, as we all know). It is my hope that the SC community will see this as something truly special.

The Official Antioch Chronicles Web Site can be found at antioch.tech-base.com/

Thank you for your time and attention. You won't be disappointed.
For Aiur.
--Auspex Turmalis (-V-, CWAL, HP)

Note - If u had probs downloading the other day give it another try, it should work fine now. I'm off to download this puppy again cuz it just sounds too cool to miss. ~tender fury~

Starcraft News for July 15th

SC Extreme
As I reported a few days ago, Calbear is revamping the site. He's been real busy the last 2 days re-organizing the Terran, Protoss and Zerg sections and now has it up. Here's some info on what he's done

A word on the "re-organized" sections: To make information easier to find, each unit/building now has its own page. As I have gone through each section, revisions have been made to keep the info current. I've also linked to relevant sections of the site within many of the unit descriptions (i.e. link to the Marine rush strat on the Marine page). So even if you've read all the descriptions before, give it another go around; there's new information there. =) -CB
Chaplin 2 on 2 Bible Update
Chaplin has the layout done for his 2 on 2 Bible. He has some info posted today on what u can expect to find in it. Sounds like a pretty massive undertaking as he says some sections could take 5-20 posts. Hes planning on covering:
  1. Team Basics
  2. Playing as a Team
  3. Land Games
  4. Water Games
  5. Map Specifics
  6. Miscellaneous
New Brood War Cutscenes
Blizz has added 3 new cutscenes to the Brood War Page. View them here.

Final Fantasy VIII Page Opens
A friend of mine has opened the 8th Wonder, his tribute to FFVIII. The pix were the first thing to get my attention, but i was surprised by all the info he has too, and a ton of music. Looks extremely cool and if your into Anime art your going to love this place. :) A lot of FVII info as well. Give it a look here. Great job Protoss01 :)

Brood War Mind Control FAQ
Shadow at SC.Org has put together a Mind Control FAQ. He says he has verified the info and notes it is only accurate for NON team play. I made it into a permanent page. View it here.

GRP Viewer
This is a viewer that will allow you to view all the SC .grp files, which is where the animations are. Sweet. Download it here. I got this viewer from Scum Runners, if your looking for scums, this is the site to go to. ScumRunners also had a file u might like. It's for use with the MPQ Viewer and will tell u where to find some easter eggs in SC.
