Special Forces Update
Here's an email I got concerning the Special FOrces SCM. I've updated the links for the new version.

Sorry... I made a mistake and didn't delete a test trigger from my special forces scm. The trigger in place player 1 has a severe advantage. Here is the updated version of (3)Special Forces.
thanks,
kristian

Expansion Pack Info
OGR has some info up on Brood Wars, Blizzard's official expansion pack for StarCraft. Brood Wars boasts 24 new campaigns, new units including the Construct Lurkers, Medics, Valkyries, Corsairs, and Dark Archons, new terrain types, including Deserts, Frozen Wastes, and the mysterious Twilight Worlds of the Dark Templar. All of these features will be carried over to the multiplayer option AND you'll also get over 100 new multiplayer maps. Sounds good so far :) article here.

New Map !
Kristian sent me a new map called (3)Special Forces. It allows you to build extended units and structures in multiplayer games, three new structures, one for each race, and a mercenary/hero called the Jailor that sounds cool. See the readme file for more info. Map Size: 192x192 Mode: Multiplayer with single player extension. Game Types: Use map settings. Mail comments, requests, questions, and suggestions to Kristian Download Download now! Thanks Kristian :)

For all u .SCM Developers
I found this email on Fixed Positions posted at SC.Org and thought I'd pass it on.

I don't know how widely known this is throughout the Starcraft community but since I don't see anyone on battle.net doing it, I'll assume it's not well known. I think there is one thing that team and clans miss from warcraft is the ability to have fixed positions in team play. There is a way! Just use map settings in the map and the game will automatically default to fixed positions. For instance, if you did map settings in Plains of Snow '98, the top 4 players in the chat room will be on the left hand side and the bottom 4 will be on the right. To see the positions, just open up the starcraft campaign editor and look at the positions. I'm emailing you in hopes that the starcraft players will start to play teams with map settings instead of melee.

Didn't you hate 4on4 POS when you were stuck by yourself on one side with the enemies?

Thanks

Dominion: Storm Over Gift3 Goes Gold
Eidos Interactive announced that Dominion: Storm Over Gift3 has gone gold and will ship to retailers worldwide in June. Don't ask me why I reported that, but I guess someone will be happy to hear it.

An Excellent New Site
King Arthur asked me to announce the opening of Camelot Systems. It's my pleasure :) This site has a lot to offer and is definitely worth the look...

Camelot Systems is publicly launching several spin-off sites today. The first is SCMapCentral, a website devoted to reviewing and distributing SCuM campaigns and maps that specialize in triggers. Submissions of SCuMs are welcome, as are applications to become a SCUMBAG (StarCraft User Map Builder and Advanced Gamer).

The second is WTF (WarCraft Technical FAQ), which is being designed by King Arthur (who created tutorials to add units and tilesets to WarCraft II) and will have sections for all WarCraft II Editing Tools, have a list of commonly asked Questions and Answers, sections on Basic and Advanced editing, file formats, and a searchable index.

The third will be The SPUD Zone, which will be a SPUD-distributing site. For those of you unfamiliar with SPUDs, they are Super PUDs (PUD files which are larger in size, and/or contain more players than regular PUDs). SPUD Zone is expected to launch sometime before the end of the month, probably co-inciding with the release of King Arthur's SPUD Farmer 2.0 (a utility used to add players to maps).

Last, but certainly not least will be the launch of Turalyon's WarCraft II: The Reptiles site. Formerly the official page for the WarCraft II Total Conversion of the same name, Turalyon has redeveloped his page to concentrate on getting information out to other fans of the project. Although Turalyon is no longer running the Total Conversion, work is still continuing with it, and negotiations are currently underway to recieve authorization from Blizzard Entertainment on creating WarCraft: The Lost Legacy, a full-game version of the Reptiles Total Conversion.

In Camelot System news, Merlin, has completed development of the MAGE (Millenium Advanced Gaming Engine) compiler which will be used to process S++ scripting code. He is now concentrating on developing the Virtual Machine which will link the binary code output by the MAGE compiler. For those of you unfamiliar with MAGE, it is an RTS/RPG gaming engine being written by Camelot Systems to be used in the second version of Nilferax Lab's Reptiles Total Conversion (tentatively titled WarCraft: The Lost Legacy). MAGE will allow custom-scripting to be used in the game to create many new features based on the user's own desires.

To find out more about any of the above projects, please contact King Arthur.

Update on Station 17
If u just gotta know what happened, head over to S|U. There is a lot of info up on this. He's posted emails from Aridan and other Sta17 staff. The news section is in the pop up window, so don't close it, wait for it to load. Apparantly they got a new layout.
If that doesn't get your fill, i saw over at SC.Org that there's a chat with Death Viper (Station17 Strategy Writer) posted at Comstat. There's some answers here but not a lot. Seems maybe i was a little harsh on Aridin. Sorry bout that. There is also another little blurb posted just above the chat. View both here.

Blizzard Announces .SCM of the Week!
Saw at Blizzard News that they've announced a new feature, .SCM of the Week. They've also got a very cool graphic to go along with the announcement. View Blizzard News or Go here to Download Brushfire, the new .scm and get more info.

Blizzard Cancels Lord of the Clans
Development has stopped on Warcraft Adventures... This is sad :( I thought it looked to be a cool game. Here's Blizzard's Official Announcement:

After much internal discussion, Blizzard Entertainment decided today to stop development of Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans.

Following an intensive review of the game, the company determined that given the game's current status and the rapidly changing technology of the industry, it would not be possible to complete development of the game within a reasonable time frame.

While this has been an extremely difficult decision, we firmly believe that we cannot release a title that does not meet the exceptionally high standards that both we and our customers expect from the Blizzard label.

Chat Log
S|U has posted a partial log from the live chat with Donald Driscoll. Amberite even said the chat was interesting. Go figure. hehehe View it here. Watch out for the new layout, the news is in the pop up window so don't close it.

SC GRP Viewer
Micky K has made a graphics viewer that allows you to view the Starcraft .GRP files (the unit animations), which can be extracted with the MPQ Viewer. Haven't tried this yet but it sounds pretty cool :) Loads and shows CEL and CL2 files, Animate the Frames, Save separated frames as BMP's and GIF's , and save the animations as GIF animations. I don't really understand it all so get more info at the author's site. Download the GRP Viewer. Get the English Manual, Get the Deutsche Anleitung. Email Micky K with questions and suggestions.

Need a Laugh?
Wargasm sent me this joke and I liked it so much I added it to the joke section. Check out You Just Might Need Computer Training If ... hehehe

Terran Protoss War Campaign
Quickshot14 mailed me about his Terran Protoss Campaign War. These are supposed to be some very cool campaigns and I'll be adding them to the download section tonight. Here's a little info on the campaigns from Quickshot14 :

Terran Protoss War Homepage "First, this is an ON-GOING TERRAN CAMPAIGN, meaning I will continue it with new parts every week or 2, it will not end until i decide it to. Second, each part contains at least 5 SCM's, if it doesn't i'll let u know. Third, my biggest desire *besides the hope that this thing becomes bigger* is that I want feedback, from u guys, and players. I made this campaign for one reason, YOU! And last this campaign has an entirly new storyline, i've changed the StarCraft lore *cause I can!* and there are new characters *and old ones*"

Grab the missions here. Download Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. You can get more info on the missions and read the story line at the Terran Protoss War Homepage

Station17 Back Up ??
I hate it when sites do this. i don't know if Aridin really was upset and closed Station17 in earnest or if it was a ploy to get the site some attention, I guess I'll never know. Actually it doesn't even say who's running it. But it doesn't matter now cuz it's back with a new name, Station 17: Genesis. The announcement says it's "A opinion driven game site that tells what you want to know about, the news, the games, the industry and the hardware you need to survive. The countdown has begun...

OGR's Strategy Guide Updated
BlackLizard's Strat Guide, posted at OGR, has been updated. OGR's announcement states that " dozens of reader submitted strategies have been added, covering basic to advanced strategies. Furthermore, Blacklizard has added more advanced strategies to the guide, such as tactics to counter the Protoss Reaver drop and early game rushes. View the updates here.

Uh-Oh ICQ !!
Globes has an article that says AOL is about to buy Mirabilis, the company that developed ICQ, for $300 million dollars. The article also states that Mirabilis refused to confirm or deny reports of the deal with AOL. AOL??? of all the companies to buy it :( ah well Read the article here. In a related article, ICQ Users Complain: Deal with AOL Disaster for Us, ICQ users sound off on their disapproval. One user said " Please do not degrade the quality of ICQ by selling out to AOL." I couldn't agree more. Read the article here.

Station 17 No More
After 2 years Station 17 has closed down. Aridin simply posted

A certainty in life is that if you want something bad enough, someone will surely come to take it away from you.

I don't know what happened or why, but I wish them the best.

ScumNet Explains All
SC.Org had this posting from Red Dog of Scum.Net : I wondered what was going on with them...

I'm sure you guys are all wondering what happened to my page, the SCuM.Net. Well, Neurogamer's ISP sucked, so they went offline for 3 weeks. About a week ago, they came back up, but they haven't restored the logins! I have not been able to update it at all, so it's been sitting there in the state it was 4 weeks ago. To top it off, anything sent to scum@neurogamer.com never reached me.

So, what with the SCuM.Net now? I've worked out a deal to move to a completely new server and the domain should be up any time now (or so they tell me). I've got some more tutorials, reviews, and I even updated the graphics. When it comes back there will be a colossal update for everyone and we'll be able to get back in the groove. If anyone needs to get back in contact, I'm at rh_olson@kans.com.

Injunction Denied
Blizzard tried to get an injunction to have Stellar Forces removed from the shelves. It was denied. U can read Gamespot the article here
