Done.  Niners got punked!  The PHI Def is mean, real mean!
Highlights...

  • OneMan lowers the hammer on Squiddies and makes calamari!

  • Schmen eekks one out over Shortline.

  • Smoke pulls win #3 on a dumb-ass coach.

  • Hefe gets Weekly High Point (94).

  • Shorline gets Weekly Low Point (23)

  • Hefe-Raiders has home field advantage through the Y'all Divisional Playoffs

  • Cooks-Holmes has home field advantage through the Dude Divisional Playoffs

  • Squiddies clenches a playoff spot.

  • Banana's will need a OneMan loss and a Banana'a win to get into the playoffs.

  • Krunch vs. Hawks in Week 13 is HUGH.  Winner is likely be in the playoffs.  Looser will need help.

  • Schmen pulls the Hefe-Raiders card in week 13, and will need LOTS of help.

  • OneMan, riding a 3 game winning streak, has moved into the playoffs and needs one more win to clench.

Happily turning the league back over the TxComm.  Everyone have a great Turkey, and don't forget:

THURSDAY GAMES!!!

11-24-02 (evening)
Well, here it is!~  The Good, The Bad, and the UGLY!

DONE!

Cooks (49+) over Marv's (42) -  Cooks still has Barlow, RB, SF and the SF Def tomorrow to pile it on.  No matter!  Cooks has now clinched the division and home field advantage through the divisional playoffs.  I don't know how I could of missed it?  Cooks should be renamed to Holmes, and it's not for anatomical reasons.  Once again, Cooks (Holmes) get piddle from most of his roster, but gets a whopping 29 from Priest.  How is that fair?  Marv can now look forward to pounding on Banana's next week. ~GOOD?

Hawks (37+) over Driftwoodies (36) -  Driftwoodies run to repeat as Champion has come to an end.  Woodies is officially eliminated from playoff contention with this loss.   Hawks will still have Staley, RB, PHI and the PHI Def in the MNF contest.  ~BAD!

Hefe (94) over Krunch (26) -  WOW, Hefe-Raiders is on FIRE AGAIN!  Will anyone or anything slow him down on his quest for the crown?  As a newcomer to our league this year, he has kicked some serious ass on almost all of us.  Hefe has now clinched the division and home field advantage through the divisional playoffs.  Krunch doesn't help his cause with the loss, but is still alive in the playoff hunt.  Give this weeks high point to the Hefe-Raiders, and a new High Point for the year!  ~UGLY

NEED THE GAME TO KNOW

OneMan (44+) vs. Squids (46) -  Squids is done and OneMan still has Owens, WR, SF and Akers, K, PHI.  I have to give the nod to OneMan, her strategy is paying off.  Her team is Hot at just the right time...  Without too much work, it looks like, even with a loss, Squiddies has earned himself a playoff spot.  That leaves OneMan and Banana's to duke it out over the last spot in the Dude.  See below...  ~BAD

Shortline (23) vs. Schmen (16+) -  Shortline is done.  Schmen's got Garcia, QB, SF.  Schmen's gotta win!  ~TOSS

Plantains (34) vs. Smoke (27+) -  In an interesting twist, the league should begin to implement drug testing on it's coaches.  Banana's, err. Plantains started McAllister, RB, NO after seeing an ESPN report this morning "claiming" that he would start today.  God they were wrong!, what was I smoking.  So, as it goes, Smoke has Pinkston, WR, PHI in the MNF game.  Smokes 15 pts from the BAL DEF has kept him in this one.  A win for Smoke is doom for Banana's.  I guess what goes around, comes around.  Can Banana's get a break and live on for another week?  ~UGLY :(

Who will get low point?  Schmen, Smoke, Shortline, Krunch???

Disgusted...             CaComm.

11-24-02 (morning)
Lineups posted.  Smoke takes his second DOH of the year.  Break for Banana's?  OneMan strategizes that a TE start vs. Cooks is better than a TE start vs. Squiddies.  Great match-ups write up by TxComm, thanks!

CaComm

All lineups in except Smoke. We have final TE starts from Bananas and Hefe - One Man has a TE must start next week...

TxComm

11-22-02
Here we go with the final two weeks - here's some thoughts on how this weekend and the outlook

Dude:
Really the only battle of interest in the Dude is the struggle for the 4th place bubble spot, currently occupied by Bananas, but he currently has One Man breathing down his neck, and must match win for win to keep that spot. Bananas has beaten One Man in both of their tilts this year, but One Man is only 1/2 game back - any combination of a Bananas loss with a One Man win would put her up by better record. Their remaining schedule features tough final week 13 matchups, so this is the week they must win. Don't forget to throw in they both need one more TE start before week 13... I will go out on a limb and presume a Bananas win this week, so One Man will have to win -

Cooks at Martians
This one doesn't mean a hill of beans except for seeding in the playoffs. A win for Marv's will give him the division lead, as that would be a split on the head to head matchups with Cooks, and the tiebreak it would fall to is total points, where Marv's would lead.

Smoke at Bananas
Wow. Sure he's mathematically out of the playoffs, but just when Smoke got himself a hot QB he goes down. Maddox is out for the week, which may be just what Bananas needed -

One Man at Squids
As stated above, One Man will need one win better than Bananas to take the bubble spot. Her test against Squids is certainly a tougher row to hoe than what Bananas faces. What a great year Squids is having - his 7 wins this year is almost as much as his win total over the past 4 years. He hasn't clenched a playoff spot yet, but a win this week or next (against Up in Smoke) will put him in. It's looking good for the Squiddies.

Y'all
Nobody's questioning Hefe or Shortline, they are in, and their positions are locked - all that remains to be seen is who they are going to be playing in week 14. The bottom end of the Y'all is a battle for mediocrity. Let's put it this way - the 3rd place record in the Y'all wouldn't make the playoff bracket in the Dude. Controlling their destiny is Hawks and Krunch, at 4-7-0, Schmen is 1/2 game back at 3-7-1, and at 1 1/2 games back Woodies is praying for other teams losses at 2-8-1. So from the bottom up here is how it looks -
Any combination of a Woodies loss or wins by both Krunch or Hawks and Woodies is out. Woodies must win out and one of the others must lose out for Woodies to get in. It gets more convoluted in that Krunch and Hawks play each other next week so one will automatically get one win. If the other wins this week it is all done for Woodies.
Schmen must win 1 more than Krunch or Hawks to get in.
Krunch and Hawks must simply stay ahead of the other two schmucks.
Tie-breakers won't really apply because of the 1/2 game difference, due to the tie that both Woodies and Schmen have - but should their
records be tied, Schmen has the tiebreak.

BTW - is it lost on anyone that Shortline hasn't picked up a single player out of free agency for the last 2 years? Playoffs both years, too. Lucky, or draft damn well?

Woodies at Hawks
As stated, this is a must win for Woodies. Hawks broke his 4 game losing streak last week with a win over Smoke, and will look to extend this week. Woodies lost his starting QB for at least 1-3 weeks, and will trot out Brunell this week for a prayer. My God, has it really come to this?

Hefe at Krunch
This may be the last great week for Da Raidaas... they have Arizona this week then their schedule gets plenty tough - NYJ, SAN & MIA. Hefe has one TE start left this year, and some pundits predict that this will be his week to pull that trigger. Krunch may have Marshall Faulk back, and needs the win to solidify his playoff prospects.

Schmen at Shortline
Short took a tough loss last week to Squids, but his division play has been strong, and as stated, is a playoff lock. Schmen must have one more win than either Hawks or Krunch to bump them, and he is taking on the toughest schedule in the Dude to do it - Short this week and Hefe next.

Wow! Look at the time. Back at it. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Results are posted:

  • OneMan posts her 2nd Consecutive Weekly High Point (64).

  • Smoke earns the Weekly Low Point (15).  OUCH that makes 6 this season.

  • Cooks pulls out the win, getting 13 from his kicker!!!

  • Squids holds onto his lead for the win, keeping the pressure on Banana's who is now being pressured on the other side by OneMan.

  • Martians has now clinched a playoff berth, Congrats!

  • Shortline has now clinched a playoff berth, Congrats!

  • Looks like the final 2 spots in each division will come down to the final week!

DUDE

  • Banana's plays Smoke and then Martians and had better win out to hold OneMan at Bay.

  • OneMan plays Squids and then Cooks.  If she wins out, then she deserves to be in the playoffs.

  • Squids plays OneMan and finishes with Smoke.

Y'ALL

  • More later as this is a chocolate mess!  Everyone is in play!!!

Scary stuff in this weekend of football....

DONE, not a ONE, but here's the RUN, Sam I Am...

OneMan (65) vs. Driftwoodies (44+):
OneMan is done, and looks to be in GRAND shape to take her second Weekly High Point in a row.  Her roster has just blown up the last 2 weeks.  Her 65 points is out of a potential 95 (she got 35 from 2 WR's alone).  Karma, spell book, whatever, man I R F'd as she has gained ground on that last playoff spot in the Dude.  Driftwoodies has Bulger, QB, STL in the MNF Contest, and will need a MONSTER game to pull it out!  Woodies roster is hurting (thanks for running the draft this year, DOESN'T IT REALLY SUCK?!).

Martians (49) vs. Krunch (32+):
Marv is done, and got 17 from dreadlock Williams, RB, MIA.  Krunch is still swinging with Booker, WR, CHI.  A 3 TD performance will give him the win!  I'd say the safe bet is a Marv's win, and a nice 8-3 record.

Cooks (36+) vs. Schmen (47):
Schmen is done, and put up a nice number.  Garcia and the TB Def saved his bacon, both putting up 11 points each.  Cooks did well too with 3 players in double digits!  Cooks has Edinger, K, CHI, and it could make ALL THE DIFFERENCE.  A 11-12 point game for a kicker isn't out of the question, is it?

Banana's (43+) vs. Hefe-Raiders (54):
Hefe-Raiders is done.  While NE DEF held Hefe-Raiders 4 players to a total of 24 points, it was the 20 from Ward, WR, PIT that made the difference.  Banana's got 13 from McNabb, but has lost him for the season with a broken ankle (thank God I didn't trade Vick!).  Banana's has Wilkens, K, STL in the MNF game.  A 11-12 point game for a kicker isn't out of the question, is it?  echo, echo...

Squids (40) vs. Shortline (31+):
Squids is done, hey he got 10 from his kicker!  A 11-12 point game for a kicker isn't out of the question, is it?  echo, echo...  Shortline has Bruce, WR, STL.  This one will definitely need the outcome of the STL/CHI game to know!

Smoke (15) vs. Hawks (42+):
Smoke is done, and now has lost his QB too.  Maddox, QB, PIT goes down with a spinal trauma.  He is likely looking at early retirement.  Hawks will try and pile it on with Holt, WR, STL, and will need a LOAD to contest OneMan for this Weeks High Point.

So it is looking like a 3-3 split for this inter-conference match-ups.

A couple of noteworthy statistics:

  • Dude has 5 of the top 6 teams per the Power Ranking.

  • Dude has 4 of the top 5 teams per Waiver Wire Order.

  • Banana's holds the current Coaching Percentage title by .1% over Shortline.  84.1% vs. 84.0%. (I just made that up :).

O.K. I'm tired.  hasta.  CaComm...

Off to the races, everybody's line-ups in!

CaComm

11-16-02
Some line-ups in.

11-12-02

Results are posted.

  • Remember the butt-load of 33 points?  Well give it to the Hefe-Raiders once again, and Denver for laying down on their home turf.  Was Gannon on FIRE or what?  Did the Denver DEF suck butt or what?  Is Jerry Rice ageless or what?  Did Hefe score 42 points or what?  Win to Hefe-Raiders, who are back on track (for at least one game).

  • Driftwoodies is sitting in the tank, but the bottom 4 teams in the Y'all are so bad, any of them can make it into the show.  Someone needs to run the table with 3 games left to take control.

  • OneMan had to hold off Hefe (not Woodies) to win her first High Point of the year.  Congrats Kelly!

  • Schmensters STUNK and got this weeks low point (11).  That is starting to rival Smokes reserve draft team.

  • At 7-3 Hefe-Raiders has now clinched the first playoff berth in the Y'all.

  • Smoke is officially eliminated from playoff contention.  Best he can post is a 5-7-1, running the table.  While the top 4 teams already have 6 wins on the season.

  • Banana's and Hefe (who play in Week 11) must start TE's for the next two out of 3 games!

  • Eveyone check your TE starts!  Only 3 more games for compliance.

  • Time to feed the kitty.  If you owe the league more than $6, send me a check...

    • Smoke that means you bub, $47, fork it over.

    • Woodies, $6.

    • Everyone else is within league parameters.

That's a wrap!  CaComm out!

11-10-02 (evening)
Preliminary results from Sundays games are posted.

DONE:  technically none, so CALL THEM DONE:

  • The Upset #1:  OneMan (57+) over Martians (56):  OneMan still has the NFL leading rookie rusher, Portis, RB, DEN in the MNF contest to maintain her status of HIGH POINT.  Martians is done, literally.  OneMan has her best game of the year, when it counted the most.

  • The Upset #2:  Smoke (52) over Cooks (34+):  Cooks has a shot with Sharpe, TE, DEN, but it isn't gonna happen.  Smoke is done, and so it this one.

  • Shortline (53) over Hawks (29+):  Shortline is done, Hawks has Brown, WR, OAK.  At this point Hawks just want's to avoid weekly low point as his loosing streak reaches 4!

  • Driftwoodies (53+) over Hefe (20+):  With 4 players in the MNF contest, I shouldn't put this one here, but 34 points is a butt-load for anyone to score.  Driftwoodies has Griese, QB, DEN vs. Hefe Raiders Gannon, QB; Rice, WR; Shankakowski, K.  Figuring that Gannon and Griese cancel each other, Rice and Shank aren't going to score 34!  Driftwoodies needed a big win and got it.  He will be doing battle with OneMan for this weeks High Point.

NEED MNF TO KNOW:

  • Squids (36+) vs.  Banana's (46+):  Squids still has Smith, WR, DEN while Banana's is done.  A mere 11 from Smith and the shape of the Dude Division landscape change is complete.  Given the Martians and Cooks loss, Smoke and OneMan wins, the division has tightened up again with only 3 weeks remaining.

  • In the UGLY GAME OF THE YEAR:  Schmen (7+) vs. Krunch (12+):  Man, I mean ugly.  A combined measly 19 points between them.  Schmen got 6 of his 7 from his defense, ouch.  Schmen has Elam, K, DEN while Kruch has McCaffery, WR, DEN and the OAK DEF.  You have the give the edge to Krunch with the lead, and 2 players.  Additionally, Krunch is on a 3 game winning streak!

Enjoy the game, CaComm out.

11-10-02 (morning)
All line-ups in and posted.  I have a DOH for Smoke, his first.  Note to Smoke:  if you emailed it to my work, you need to email it to BOTH addresses.  I will check on Monday, but I have nothing at the home email.

Noteworthy Match-ups:

  • Schmen 3-5-1 vs. Krunch 3-6 - battling for the bubble spot in Y'all.

  • Shortline 5-4 vs. Hawks 3-6 - Hawks again battling for the bubble spot in Y'all.

  • Squids 6-3 vs. Bananas 5-4 - Banana's trying for the season split after a week 4 drubbing.  A Banana's win and tie for 3rd in Dude!  A Banana's loss and the door is once again open for OneMan to sneak into the 4 spot and oust Banana's.

Good luck to the teams.          CaComm

After this week, it's time to feed the kitty!  Anyone owing the kitty more than $6, needs to pay up.  SMOKE, that means YOU!!!

We had another trade this week.  This time, father and son, the top two spots in the Dude, trading 2 for 1.  All I can say, speaking for the rest of the league, is that WE hope it backfires (no offense intended).

Till Sunday, CaComm

Final Monday night stats are in -

Game winners:
Marv's barely
squeaks out over Smoke...
Squiddies comes up just 3 short of Cooks (wudda took over 1st place too...)
Bananas puts up Weekly High Point on One Man
Hefe gets back on track thumping the Hawks, who gets low point.
Schmen breaks the tie between he and Woodies and sends Woodies to the bottom of the Yall
Krunch gets win #3 over Shortline.

The Winners:
Marv's Cooks and Bananas wins were significant. Cooks especially considering who he played and the tie-break. He has now clinched a playoff spot with 4 weeks to go. There is definite separation showing now between the top 4 teams and the bottom 2 in the Dude.

The Losers:
While not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, Smoke has serious ground to make up - 3.5 games, with 4 remaining. He would have to win out the season, while Bananas would have to lose his remainder. Things look better for One Man, who is only 1.5 back from Bananas, who currently maintains the bubble spot.
Over in the Y'all, Woodies is scratching his head - How do I score only 4 less total points than the division leader (441) and have only 2 wins? 477 points against, that's how. Fortunately the bottom of the Y'all is a bit mired right now, with only .5 game separation in the bottom 4. As far as tie breaks go, it is Schmen over Woodies, Woodies over Krunch, and a likely Woodies over Hawks - so it should be exciting down the stretch.

The league goes back to California for a couple of weeks - You'll see both of us chime in as playoffs approach.

Not a bad Sunday, not bad at all - let's check the scores:

Done:

Feature Game: Marv's (48) vs. Squids (50)
Anyone following the smack on the message board had to known that this was this week's feature matchup. Squids already owed alcoholic malt beverages from Marv making good on his 5-0 start, and had offered Squids a double or nothing... Squids hedged a bit and offered a six for a twelver... Not huge stakes to be sure, but hey! pride was on the line here.
Really the difference here was Alexander finally having a breakout game. I figure the O-line finally got the 2x4 upside the head and was informed that they have a pro-bowl RB behind them, maybe they should open a hole or two in the Cowgirls D and let him run. Big win for the Squidly Didleys, which has packed up the upper end of the Dude, leaving Bananas and One Man fighting for the bubble spot.

Might as well be done:

One Man (45+) over Smoke (24+)
Smoke will trot out Todd Pinkston tonight, but there just isn't enough horsepower there to overtake the 21 points, plus whatever One Man's Thrash and Akers puts up. Smoke is safe from the Low Point, however, that honor goes to:

Hefe (16) goes down to ShortLine (24+)
Oh my. Hefe goes 5-0 and then 3-0... Lessee, through week 5 the Raiders started 4-0 (bye week 3), then went 0-3. CaComm called this one right - as the Raiders go, so goes Hefe, who started 4 Raiders again and although Gannon wasn't bad (7 points) the other three scored a cumulative 6 points. Hefe got no help from any of his other starters and ended up with 16 and the low point. Shortline will look to pile on tonight with Kerry Collins.

Schmen (69) over Hawks (30+)
See? Schmen does have it in him. He gets big double digit days from Garcia, Feely, Price, TB Def... and Marcel Shipp (yes, I typed that) and exactly 0 points from his other 3 players. Hey Schmen! You should trade with One Man for Stacey Mack - then you can have 2 backs that vulture TD's from the feature back. Nothing like a 6 carries for 27 yards, TWO TD day.... Hawks reaps the benefits of a rollover lineup, and a "DOH!" - two players on bye. And although he has Philly's D and Duce Staley going tonight, it's 39 points they gotta make up. Not gonna happen.

Should be done but may need tonight to know:

Yeah, I know that's not a normal category but it's one deserving of this game -
Cooks (62+) over Bananas (44+)
Cooks has Tiki Barber going tonight, but up against a monster Philly Def, while Bananas will look to Donovan McNabb for big numbers. Can he make up the 18 points plus what ever Tiki puts up? Not likely. Can he? You bet - 3 times this year already. Not that the Giants secondary are any slouches, they have yet to yield a 300 yard passing game this year. So it looks good for Cooks, but ya never know. A Cooks win here will solidify his league best record at 7-1. He prays for a weekly Priest performance and he hasn't disappointed. Priest is the new Marshall Faulk, who Cooks rode 2 years ago to a Wolf Bowl win.

Needs tonight to know:

Krunch (45) holding over Woodies (43+)
Krunch is done at 45, getting even performances from all of his starters, and only his kicker in double digits, scoring 10. Woodies still has Amani Toomer going tonight against the aforementioned monster Philly Def. Three points, three measly points. A win for Woodies here moves him up a slot to third place in the Y'all. Krunch needs the win to keep the bubble slot in his sights.

Everyone have a great week. Talk to you tomorrow.

Yeah! Let's give it up for CaComm! Nice work for the past 3 NFL weeks!

I have some comments about week 7:

GAWD, DID THE Y'ALL SUCK! Look at these scores:

Shasta Old Timers 2002 Fantasy Football League Scores for 2002 Week #7
======================================================================
 6. The Hawks       ( 39) 10. One Man Short of a Full Roster( 63)
 1. DriftWoodies    ( 51)  2. Marv's Martians               ( 52)
 9. Kenitos Krunch  ( 52)  4. Ronnie Cooks                  ( 74)
 7. Schmenster's    ( 35)  5. Singing Bananas               ( 89)
12. Hefeweizens     ( 46)  8. Squids                        ( 58)
 3. Short Line      ( 14) 11. Up in Smoke                   ( 45)

That's right folks - that's the entire Y'all division on the left, the Dude on the right. We was punked. Something about the interleague play - even lowly Up in Smoke rose (no pun intended) to put up enough to beat half of the Y'all teams. Sad thing is, THIS was our week of retribution - the Dude's smoked us in week three - 4 wins to the Y'alls' 2 - the inter-division record now stands at 10-2. Next and final meeting until post season - week 11. I, for one, am not looking forward to it.

10-20-02 (evening)
Here are the results of Sunday's games:

DONE:
Martians (52) over Woodies (51) -   In what amounts to a heartbreaker for Woodies and a nail-bitter for Martians, this one comes down to Woodies not having an active DEF on his roster to start this week.  Martians escapes from what would have otherwise been a loss and keeps stride with his son, Cooks for top draw in the Dude.

CALL 'EM DONE:
OneMan (60+) over Hawks (39) -   OneMan still has Harrison, WR, IND in the MNF contest.

Cooks (71+) over Krunch (47+) -  Krunch as Vanderjagt, K, IND vs. Cooks Burress, WR, PIT.  However, with a 24 point lead, it really doesn't matter who has what.  Cooks remains the top seed in the Dude with a 6-1 record.  Cooks may have to start some TE's soon and give a few coaches a "shot" at him.

Banana's (89) over Schmen (35+) -  Schmen trots out Ismail, WR, IND and needs a boat load, errr.  make that a shipload!  Banana's made a run the the annual high point of 93, but fell short.  Let's see if it holds for weekly high point over Cooks and/or OneMan.

Smoke (38+) over Shortline (9+) - YES, I SAID SMOKE!!!.  Smoke still has Maddox, QB, PIT while Shortline has James, RB, IND.  Congrats to SMOKE for hanging in there, spending some coin in Free Agency and coming up with a win!  Shortline will likely be the winner of this weeks Weekly Low Point Award.

NEED MNF TO KNOW:
Hefe (31+) vs. Squids (45+) - Hefe has his work cutout, needing to outscore by 15.  Hefe has Ward, WR, PIT againts Squids Pollard, TE, IND and the PITT DEF.  I would normally give this to Squids, but someone has to have something at stake tomorrow.  Squids is quietly having his best season ever, and at 5-2 is hanging around the top of the leader board.  Hefe, even with a loss, still sits alone at the top of the Y'all Division at 5-2.

That's it for me, I R Out!  See you Wednesday Night for some Free Agency!

I will update the league late tomorrow night or Wednesday when I am processing trades.

Lets see if the Niners can pull it out in Seattle!!!!

10-13-02 (Evening)
What a great Sunday Night Football Game!  Some serious ass-kicking defense was played tonight.

Now onto Sunday's Results:

DONE:
Shortline (51) over Driftwoodies (31) -
Woodies got his bounce back game from Tomlinson,RB,SD, but so did Shortline from George,RB,TEN.  Short maintains 2nd seat in the Y'all, while Woodies continues to ride the "bubble".

Hawks (43) over Krunch (30) -
Hawks big days  from his QB,Green,KC and Kicker,Carney,NO were enough to overcome a NO DEFENSE start and a "Faulk" like day from Marshall for Krunch.  Krunch can't buy a break...

Squids (49+) over Smoke (25) -
Squids trots out Alexander,RB,SEA to pile it on, and put in a shot at Weekly High Point.  Smoke is done, but is making headway.

Schmensters (34+) over Hefe-Raiders (33) -
Ooff, what's that I hear?  A train wreck?  It's the Raiders going down in Saint Louis, and with them goes Hefe-Raiders perfect record.  Kinda funny, Raiders go in undefeated (ala Hefe), Rams come in looking for win #1 (ala Schmen), and volia - mirror images.  Schmen still has Garcia going in the MNF contest, while Hefe (and the Raiders) lick their wounds.

CALL THEM DONE:
Cooks (34+) vs. OneMan (18+) -
OneMan puts up Owens,WR,SF vs. Cooks SF,DEF.  I don't see TO outscoring the defense by 17 points, so give the win to Cooks.

NEED MONDAY GAME TO KNOW:
Martians (60+) vs. Bananas (54+) -
This game is probably a stretch to even list here, but hey I gotta have another reason to watch?  Thanks to an almost stellar defensive performance from Denver, Williams,RB,MIA almost had a bad game.  Instead he only got friggin 14 points!  In another twist of fate, Banana's lame duck QB,Ramsey,WAS was busy throwing 4 pics to Martians NO Defense.  That's a full 16 points in swing! (Bananas up 8, Martians down 8), then who would be laughing.  Anyways, Martians sports the young buck Barlow,RB,SF against Banana's Jackson,WR,SEA.  Banana's could pull it out and create a full 3 way log jamb for the #2 spot in the Dude Division, then again the SF Defense could have their way with Dilfer and the point would be moot.

That puts my record at 2-3 on the day, I think I'll keep my day job....DAMN!

CaComm is out!

10-13-02 (Morning)
All lineups are in and posted.

OneMan vs. Cooks
OneMan comes off her first win of the season and goes up against the Division leader in the Dude, Cooks.  Looking at Cooks roster, I can't believe his 4-1 record...  It's all about Priest Homes,RB,KC.  Let's see if OneMan's karma is back on track as she tries to take down Cooks and move up the depth chart in the Dude...
     - Edge OneMan

Shortline vs. Driftwoodies
These two are dukeing it out for the #2 spot in Y'all.  Both rosters are tight, but Woodies is starting Wycheck,TE,TEN, while Shortline goes with the 3 WR set.  Woodies is looking for a redemption game from Tomilnson,RB,SD, while Shortline needs George,RB,TEN to step it up!
     - Edge Even

Krunch vs. Hawks
Hawks has resurfaced  from last weeks DOH.  However, the absence of attention has left him without a DEF this week as both are on bye.  Krunch starts Gonzales,TE,KC to counter the missing defense, but that guy is as good as or better than a WR start.  Krucnh is hoping from something from Faulk,RB,STL this week, but against the OAK Def, I don't put out much hope.  Hawks startes 2 STL WR's in hopes of a hugh passing day, but against the OAK Def, I don't put out much hope.  Sheesh, I just said that.
     - Edge Krunch

Schmen vs. Hefe
You know the good thing about the Hefe-Raiders?  You dont' have to look at his roster, just who the Raiders are playing.  This week the Raiders get to feast on the Lambs.  Nuff said, the Raiders roll all over the Rams and Hefe scores a million points.  Schmen sports a really good looking roster on paper, it just hasn't translated into wins...
     - Edge Hefe-Raiders running away..................

OK so that's:  Martians, Squids, OneMan, Krunch, Hefe-Raiders for the win.

Gotta go!  CaComm

10-12-02
Got a few line-ups in, still missing 4.

Banana's vs. Martians
It's hard to pick against your own team, but looking over Martians roster, I'd be a fool not to say that Martians has the edge.  Martians Bledsoe,QB,BUF has the distinct advantage over Ramsey,WB,WAS.  Banana's QB is on bye and backup Vick,QB,ATL is hurt.  A little fee agents shopping and... o.k. quit laughing.  The RB matchup looks even with Martians Williams,RB,MIA and Barlow,RB,SF vs. Banana's Green,RB,GB and McAllister,RB,NO.  Martians holds the WR advantage of Moulds,WR,BUF; Porter,WR,OAK; and Chambers,WR,MIA over Banana's .  The kickers and Defenses are evenly matched.
     - Edge Martians.

Squids vs. Smoke
I like Smokes new double tight-end set, but you have to give the advantage to Squids.  Squids is having one of his best seasons ever, as a result of a good draft.  Smoke has improved his roster immensely since "draft" day, but will still fall short this week.
     - Edge Squids.

More later if rosters get here soon!

10-7-02
Ok, that's a wrap on Week #5.

  • High Point:  Hefe (93) - That might just hold up all season.

  • Low Point:  Smoke (23) - ouch!

  • Shortline wins over Schmen and into 2nd place in Y'all.

Bye-itis is on it's way for some teams.  Do I smell roster moves coming?  Remember, trades/free agents will not be posted until Thursday night.

Until then, CaComm...

10-6-02 Evening
Yum, Yum, lamb chops!  What a SWEET victory!  Rams Suck, Rams Suck, Rams Suck...  just keeping the crowd chant going.

I will check my computer at work, but I don't think I got a roster from Hawks.  If not, that is our first DOH of the year.  Maybe he got shipped out again with the Iraq thing coming.

WOW, what has happened to the Geriatric Raiders?  Scoring at will the last couple of weeks, Jerry Rice has new life!

Here are Sundays Game Recap:

Done or Call 'Em Done:
Cooks (55+) over Martians (31+) - Yeah they both have their kickers in tomorrows game, but who cares, this one is done.  Family series tied at 3-3.  Cooks takes control of the Dude Division, bye way of the tie breaker, and is on a 3 game winning streak.

Bananas (41+) over Smoke (23) - Bananas is only piling it on with Green, RB, GB and the GB Defense.  No way in hell that weekly high point is even a consideration (see below).  Bananas is still sitting on the playoff fence position in Dude as the #4 seed.

OneMan (43) over Squids (36) - Well I guess Kelly got her Calimari after-all.  Congrats to OneMan for her first win of the year.  Look out league, this is how she starts every year!!!

Driftwoodies (42+) over Hawks (36) - I'm still running under the assumption that Hawks is a DOH.  He started Warner, who scored about as much as his backup today.  Lamb Chops, Lamb Chops, yum, yum.  Driftwoodies starts MY RECEIVER, Donald Duck Driver, WR, GB in tomorrows contest.  With the DOH intact, give Woodies win #2 on the year.

Hefe (93) over Krunch (27+) - No that's not an F-ing typo.  93 Damn points.  I have found newcomer Hefe's secret.  It is the Geriatric Oakland Raiders (ala old 49ers).  Hefe has started no less than 4 Raiders (out of his 8 starters) each week in his 5-0 run in this league.  It is pretty apparent that as the Raiders go, so goes Hefe.  He better hope that no one derails the Raiders train, or his season will become a wreck real quick!  BTW Hefe leads the Y'all Division by a commanding 2.5 games over Driftwoodies.  Nice Going.  Oh yeah, go ahead and give the weekly high point to Hefe now, and if Krunch can't find the GO button, give him a shot at the seasons "Slaughter Award" too!

Need MNF to Know:
Schmen (34+) vs. Shortline (28+) - Schmen trots out Miller, QB, CHI vs. Shortlines Farve, QB, GB and Glenn, WR, GB.  Hey, is it just me, or isn't Glenn out with a bo-bo?  6 points for Farve to make up for Shortline, I would give him the nod over Miller, but I think Green Bay is going to try and run up the gut all night.  Chicago is weak in the middle due to injuries.

That's it for me, gotta hit the rack and start early back at the salt mines.

10-5-02
Still missing line ups from Hawks, Schmen, Squids.

This weeks highlights to watch:

  • Newcomer Hefe tries to remain undefeated...

  • Smoke, OneMan, and Schmen are all looking for victory #1.

  • And the father / son rematch is on.  Marv takes on Cooks... as far back as my records go (1998 season), Marv holds the series lead 3-2 over junior.  A Marv win keeps him undefeated and in FIRM command of the Dude Division, while a loss put he and junior with identical records...

I'll post what I can before leaving for the game.  It's finally time for some lamb chops after 6 straight defeats!

CaComm out.

Winners were: Marv's (4-0), Hefe (4-0), Cooks (3-1), Squids (3-1), Hawks, (2-2), Krunch (1-3)
Losers were: Schmen (0-3-1), Smoke (0-3-1), One Man (0-3-1), Woodies (1-2-1), Bananas (2-2) Shortline (2-2)

Great coaching performances from : Hefe and Marv's(100%), no wonder they're winning.

GOOOOOD MORNING SPORTS FANS!!! Damn! Week 4 already... Didn't we just have a draft?

Let's see what we have to look forward to in Week 4:

Dude:
Marv's (3-0) vs. One Man (0-2-1)      (Prognostication - Marv's by not much)
Oh sure, you can argue that Marv's victories have come against opponents that are a combined 3-5-2, and that have put up a measly combined 73 points against him... Friends, make no mistake. The scores Marv's has been putting up could have beat just about anyone those weeks, so the weak opponent argument doesn't fly. Marv's is dominating so far this season, and with the exception of Ricky Williams, is doing it really without any "Marquee" talent - in fact he traded Marvin Harrison away... To One Man, who is looking for win # 1 this season. Mix this in with some mild smack going on over on the message board and I believe this is the Dude game of the week.

Bananas (2-1) vs. Squids (2-1)    (Prognostication - Bananas by a bunch)
Here's a matchup where we already have preliminary lineups from both owners so we can look at that... Damn if Ahman Green is healthy enough to go. Match that up with McNabb hitting on all MVP type cylinders (against HOU no less). McNabb should but up sick numbers, as HOU's run D is not that bad, and the Philly running game isn't all that. They'll beat them silly with Defense and McNabb. Then there's Deuce McAllister and Horn vs. Detroit, Jackson vs. Minn, and Keyshawn vs. CIN. Geeze should we just give Bananas the High Point now? Squids' matchups are ok, with the exception of Henry vs. CHI, but no way he matches up with what Bananas has this week.

Cooks (2-1) vs. Smoke (0-2-1)    (Prognostication - Cooks)
Cooks gets his turn at the barrel that Smoke has been inhabiting. Although I have to give it to him - he's been avoiding the Low Point pretty well...

Y'all
Krunch (0-3) vs. Schmen (0-2-1)     (Prognostication -

More later.

Well, One Man made a fine go of it, but only got 13 of the 15+ needed to take the win from ShortLine.

Krunch made his run too, but came up one short... Faulk needed Canidate's yards - would have given him the tie. The Rams are 0-3. Wow. Did they move back to LA?

Hefe must have felt sorry for Smoke as he went backwards - lost a point last night. Not enough to give Smoke the win, but made it closer anyway.

Give the High Point to Shortline for his 63 points.
Give the Low Point to Hawks with 5... Wait! Didn't he have 6 yesterday with 3 players yet to play??? Wow. Proehl 1 point; Jurevicius 0; and Warner -2. Ouch. Really Ouch. In case you were wondering - yes that is the lowest score ever posted in the league by a drafted team. Only Smoke's 3 point week 2 performance was worse, but he was saddled with an assignment draft team.

Gettin' interesting, eh?

TxComm

09-23-02
It's getting late so let's get at it - This was our first week of inter-divisional play, and from the looks of things, Dude has Y'all's number. With the exception of Shortline's currently holding lead over One Man, Y'all was summarily punked by the Dude. Even the lowly Smoke gave division leading Hefes a serious run for the money. We're back to divisional work next week, so Y'all can lick it wounds in it's inter-divisional squabbles, while the current heavy weights wage war up in the Dude. Be gentle on us in week 7 will ya Dudes?

Here are the 3 categories after Sunday:

Done:
Cooks (60) short orders Woodies (54)
I said to myself last week, that even with the tie, I would take the high scores Woodies (me) had been generating. Here we are again - 54 points, not enough. But seriously - how do you compete against PRIEST HOLMES? Check the Top 10 Scores report - 23 points. Woof! Throw in the 13 from Couch and the 10 from the SFO Def and Woodies goes down like kindling. I want my mommy.

Hefe (38+) gives Smoke (35) a hangover
Smoke is playing the limited free agent market well and posts his highest score this week - 35. No longer the automatic low point scorer for the week, that distinction will have to be fought over. Hawks did well this week there. Hefe has quietly gone to 3-0, putting up not dominating numbers, but plenty enough for the W's each week, and them's what counts. Congrats to the rookie.

Might as well be Done:
Marv's (59) annihilates Hawks (6?)
It appears that Hawks' players took the day off. Even in the 44 points PHI put up against DAL, Duce Staley only managed 1 point. Not one to just take a knee, Marv's piles on 59 points. Now - Hawks does have 3 players going tonight, Warner, Proehl, and Jurevicius, and could mount an incredible come back.... HA HA HA HUYEAH, RIGHT! Sorry Hawks, Marv's has this one. Stat watchers - Marv's is dominating. Leads in Wins, Points For, and Avg Points For... Scary thing is his Karma - opponents are crumbling beneath him and not offering any competition - avg points against - 24. Lowest in the league.

Squids (58) blot Schmen (21+)
Squids is pretty good this year. Pretty durn good. Look at his total points (157) and coaching percentage (82.6%) - right in there. Squids is in second place - wait, did I just type that? THE SQUID IS IN SECOND PLACE!!! Man, how the league turns.....Big day from A. Brooks (20) and nice production from the rest of his starters give him the lopsided win here over Schmen, who although has Mike Alstott going tonight, it may just lessen the embarrassment - no way is Alstott going to put up 37... Schmen was hurt by a -1 point performance for Jeff (I'm gonna hurl!) Garcia who left the game early with a stomach virus.

Needs Tonight to Know:
Bananas (60) sliding by Krunch (52?)
Bananas is done with his 60 (is it me, or does it seem like it's nothing for a team to toss up 60 points this year?) with a MONSTER day from McNabb (22), while Krunch is looking to make up the 8 point deficit with FFFFFFFAULK going tonight. Normally I would put this in the "Might as well be Done" category for Krunch, but Faulk isn't his 12.5 ppg normal self this year - Hell the Rams aren't their score-at-will selves this year. This one could go either way. Hey Bananas, - remember in 1999, second round of the playoffs, I was sitting on a 3 point lead going into Monday Night? With Shortline starting Faulk? And I got my ass kicked? Remember that? Faulk scored 16, remember? Or.. or remember that time in 2000, when you won the division and got that first round playoff bye? And met Cooks in the second round? Remember that? And, and remember he kicked your ass to Jupiter and back putting up 102 points? Remember? With Faulk scoring 30 of them? Remember? Remember? Oh, yeah! That was great! *Whew*. Good times.             Friggin Faulk.

Shortline (63) holding over One Man (48+)
Shortline finished up with 63 (is it me or does it seem like it's nothing for a team to toss up.... Wait, I said that.) getting fine days from Favre and his San D, who got some points the hard way - safety and a blocked punt mixed in with the fumble recovery, and 2 Int's - one run back for a TD. Next week's NE / SAN game should be a good one. One Man has 2 starters tonight,  Kicker Grammatica, and the STL Def, who combined are more than capable of making up the 15 point deficit, but they have to perform. The edge here goes to Shortline, who is looking to save some face for the Y'all.

Current runnings for:
Low Point - Hawks, walking away.
High Point - Short Line.

More tomorrow.

Free Agent requests are in and have been processed. All pages are current, with the exception of the pending trade...

This week for the first time we had the Worst Record status "reset" for a second player - the players in question were Hollis, K, BUF, Bryant, K, NYG and Reed, WR, BUF. The teams wanting them were Smoke, Squids and Hefe. The playout went:

  • Smoke used his "Worst Record Status" early getting Williams, RB, MIN
  • All three teams requested Hollis. Squids, now outranking Smoke, and higher on the waiver wire than Hefe used his "Worst Record Status" to get him.
  • Hefe and Smoke then requested Bryant as their first contingency pick. Hefe, not having used his "Worst Record Status" yet, outranked Smoke and was awarded Bryant.
  • Both Hefe and Squids requested Reed. Both had already used a "Worst Record Status", so it resets, as Squids was higher on the waiver wire he was awarded Reed, and used a second round "Worst Record Status".

The rules are meant to be fair, and keep parity in the league. We don't use no computer program for this one folks. All the Free Agent request are figured out by hand, so if you see a hole - shout. If I missed something, I'll fix it.

No changes from the Monday report, all games turned out as predicted - with the exception of the Woodies / Schmen game. Give one point to Freeman - Woodies and Schmen tied at 64. That's the second tie this year, which already matches our single season record and we're only in week 2.

Speaking of ties - Give One Man the Low Point from Week 1 as her record is now better than Smoke's.

Speaking of ties - Give Schmen the High Point from week 2 as his record is worse than Woodies.

Low point goes to Smoke for his stellar 3 point performance. Wow. That won't happen each week.

09-16-02
Another great week! Is it me or has football so far this year been just plain fun?

Let's get to the games:

Done:
Squids (36) fries Cooks (30)             (Prognostication recall - "Squids by 10")
I had to do some checking here - last time Squids got one over on Cooks was when Jeri Ryan was still 7 of 9, and it was the InkyBinkyBonkies doing the schooling - Week 1 of the 1999 season. Since then Cooks has dominated - all of 2000 and 2001, winning by an average of 33 points. No more, it appears. Squids is competitive. Cooks was not without his chances, though - if only Kordell and Plaxico had.. oh.. whoa... whoops!! FUMBLE!!! HE THREW IT RIGHT TO WOODSON - HE COULD... GO... ALL... THE... WAY! That's gotta hurt.

Shortline (57) puts the kybosh on Krunch (55)       (Prognostication recall - Krunch by 5)
Mr. "I never saw a free agent worth spending a buck on" is at it again. Quietly drafting well, and coaching well - 85%, Shortline always seems to see playoff time... Krunch put up good numbers, and did get a Faulk like performance from Faulk, but his WR's completely failed him, putting up a combined 0 points. San Diego's D was the big hammer for Shortline, as they whupped up the Texans, and scored 20 points for Short. How ironic that Krunch uses his first pick, first round on Faulk (who wouldn't!) and both he and the Rams are 0-2...

Call 'em done:
Marv's (62) puffs Smoke (1+)              (Prognostication recall - "Marv's by a bunch")
Call me pessimistic, but Smoke scoring 63 with Matthews, Thompson and WAS D may be a little too optimistic... Marv's is on a roll - second straight week over 60. Ricky Williams is a stud.

Hefe (47+) hurls Hawks (22+)             (Prognostication recall -  edge - even)
Although Hawks has 2 players going tonight (Duce Staley and the PHI D), Hefe still has Steven Davis to add to his 47 points with. So that would mean the Duce would have to match Davis' production (or more) and the Philly's D would have to make up the other 25 points... Not unheard of - just real unlikely. The story here was the Oakland / Pittsburgh game - Hefe started 3 Raiders and one Steeler. Shankakowski put up 14 points, Charlie Garner added 10, Hines Ward 13. Harrumph!

Bananas (39+) puts the slip on One Man (30+)             (Prognostication recall -  edge - even)
I'm really waffling here whether to put this one in "Call 'em done" or in the next category. Each team has one player going tonight - Bananas with McNabb and One Man with the guy McNabb will be throwing the ball to - Thrash. But as I see it - they both should score about the same, so the win will go to Bananas. (unless Thrash scores on a couple of end-arounds...) I'm sure if Bananas had it his way, a 0-0-0 day from McNabb would be great - that would be 0 points for him, but 0 for Thrash too, and a subsequent win for Bananas. Deuce McAllister had a monster day for the Bananas (16), who otherwise would be looking at a second loss.

 Needs tonight to know:
Woodies (64) teetering in front of Schmen (63+)
(Prognostication recall - Woodies by 10)
Schmen gets monster performances from the Tampa Bay Defense (27 points!) and Curtis Conway (16) and now sits only 1 point behind going into tonight's game. Here is another game I waffled on putting here or moving it to the above category, but Schmen's player tonight is Freeman, WR, PHI - their third string WR... and reviewing what I wrote last Monday about WR's, where One Man was going into Monday nights game needing one point from her WR Brown for a win - "but it is not unheard of for a WR to put a goose egg, or fumble one away..." Brown went 6 - 22, 0 points. Woodies got standard performances from his crew, with the exception of the NE Defense, which put up a hefty 20 points in their embarrassment of the Jets. A Woodies loss here would put Hefe - that's right, Hefe- alone atop the Y'all division.

So how'd the Prognosticator do? Tallying.... Lessee.. I'll throw out the "even" games since I didn't call for a winner and: 2-2 (I'll take the 6 point Squids win). I'm going to Vegas baby!

More tomorrow.

Line ups trickling in. Ones I got are posted.

A quick glance at this week, and we see it is another week of divisional matchups. A quick rundown, with some prognostication:

Dude:

Marv's vs. Smoke (edge - Marv's by a bunch)
Smoke recovered a bit with some pickups this week, notably a starting QB and a promising WR. Unfortunately he must have been under the impression that having a "worst record" status meant you could just take players from someone else's team just by asking for them. Requests for Travis Henry and Jeremy Shockey went ignored (well, not really ignored - it provided a good chuckle...) Still, even with the improvements, Smoke enters this week as a pronounced underdog. He's still a gamer though - he has some smack running over on the message board, and hey! He did avoid the low point last week.

Cooks vs. Squids (edge - Squids by 10)
One of last season's doormats drafted pretty well this year and his Jimmy Smith hunch - whether intentional or no - is working out superbly. Squids put up 63 points in a loss to Marv's in week 1 and although he doesn't have a lineup in, I figured on a common sense lineup and did an evaluate -  his matchups look good this week. Maybe good enough for another 63. (No, Squids, you can't ask me which starters I used to run the numbers...) Cooks has some good talent on his team, but it's peaked -  Priest Holmes and Randy Moss on the high end, then a big drop to his next level of talent. And truthfully - there's no way Priest is going to put up those kind of numbers every week, and every defense in the land knows that now Chris Carter is gone, the key to shutting down that offense is to shut down Randy Moss. Easier said than done I know, but if there is one time this year that he doesn't face a double or triple team is the week some guy in that secondary gets benched.

One Man vs. Bananas (edge - even)
One Man has some good talent on her team. Her first round draft pick - Owens WR, SFO had a tough time of it last week, (see Moss comment above) but like Moss, can't be held in check forever. I'm sure this will be Denver's strategy this week as well and the Bronco's do sport a decent secondary. We'll see. Bananas will have to face that same problem all of us would like to have - whether to start the rookie QB, who could post up 15 friggin' points like last week, or completely flame out... or the reliable MVP, type candidate that was his 3rd round pick....hmmm.
This one will come down to 1 or 2 players that happen to shine on that particular week. The matchups don't show me anything that's a shoo-in for a light up, so this one's too close to call.

Y'all:

Hawks vs. Hefe (edge - even)
Certainly no first year jitters here. Hefe has a pretty good roster, and the 60 on week 1 shows it. Hawks sports a pretty good lineup as well and where Hefe certainly isn't going to score 60 every week, don't count on Hawks putting up only 33 each week with the likes of Warner, Dillon, Tim Brown and Holt on his roster. (although starting Warner - Holt is vulnerable - witness week 1) Both teams really don't  have any starting questions until that 3rd WR... watch your matchups.

Woodies vs. Schmen (edge - Woodies by 10)
I know I just put myself up by 10, but after looking at the matchup, I couldn't help it. Schmen has a stellar QB, then has RB questions after that... then milder WR questions after that... I don't see Ismail getting those kind of number every week - not with Harrison on the same team. Woodies wouldn't mind a stronger starting QB, but is thick at RB and WR. Look for another consistent year from Woodies.

Shortline vs. Krunch (edge - Krunch by 5)
Shortline has solid players - but may have issues at WR. Bruce, of course, is pat. Alexander, his second WR drafted, may be suffering from the Moss 40% factor - what was left over after Randy got his 40% was 3 tosses to Alexander, of which he caught 1. Then comes Trina Glenn. I'm surprised Favre hasn't broken both of Trina's hands with his passes by now. Mohammed now has Rodney Peete (BWAAAHAAHAAAA! Sorry - I just can't think of Peete starting without doing that....) throwing to him. That leaves Javon Walker, which may pan out yet - he's Short's highest scoring receiver to date...
Krunch has improved vastly over last year. Faulk. 'Nuff said. But can somebody tell me how he managed to get Culpepper, Booker, Boston, Gonzolez and McCaffery? He managed a bandaid on his drafting snafu's (drafting 2 players that were already out for the season) by picking up Fletcher RB, SAN and Morgan, WR, CLE, both who put up big numbers in week 1, but are likely aberrations for them. That aside - Krunch has a solid roster and should contend this year.

Should be a good weekend.

A word about Tuesday:
I am still numb from the viscous attacks on Tuesday. The rat bastards that perpetrate these atrocities, then scurry and hide like cockroaches behind puppet governments, deserve no less than the worst of deaths. How can individuals with any conscience exist and act this way, and do it in the name of religion? That is not my God. My God does not condone killing. My God does not condone suicide. I sincerely hope this administration does not stop at the individual responsible, but goes after its support structure as well.

God Bless America.

And there you have it folks! Week 1 is done. A couple of Week 1 notes before we get to the Win/Losses.

  • Be sure to carefully check your teams players stats / scores. We migrated over last years scoring, but the software is continually updated.
  • Preliminary stats/scores - FLM is making stats available as they get them through the day. If we (the commissioners) can, we update and pump the up to the site, as I did Sunday. If you have the owners software (and you should) you can nap the stats yourself at any time, and don't have to wait for this page update. The stats are that - Preliminary. During the course of the day we saw scores go from in the 60's to ending up at 50's. Fumble data is notoriously late. If you find discrepancies in what you should have for your score - wait until Tuesday morning to bark. We'll check into it. FLM does change stats if an error is brought to their attention. But remember, from the rules:

Official source for stats used to determine scores is the FFL Software. No exceptions.

Oh hey! Did I mention that Week 1's games were all DIVISION GAMES? They count big my friends.

So - How'd we do?

11. Up in Smoke ( 26) 10. One Man Short of a Full Roster( 26)
Are you kidding me? We have to do this again this year? Wait a full week to see who gets the Low Point award? Edwards came 3 measly yards from getting the one point that One Man needed for the win and dumping Smoke with his first Low Point.  Now we wait until next week to figure it out. One Man, usually stellar in her starter percentage, only coached 52%. Don't expect that from her all year. Would you like some insult with that injury? How 'bout this - that 26 point tie also put all 5 of the other losing teams ahead of them on the waiver wire order... including Squids, who racked up 63.

8. Squids ( 63) 2. Marv's Martians ( 81)
Wow. That hurts. 63 would have beaten any other team this week. Any team except Martians. Marv's coached an unbelievable 98.8% getting all but 1 point from his potential. Sheesh. The 81 from Marv's sets the bar for the season's High Point award. Take heart, though Squids, total points is the third tie break and 63 is a hell of a start. Give the Weekly High Point and $5.00 to Marv's.

5. Singing Bananas ( 42) 4. Ronnie Cooks ( 60)
Did some back checking and found that this is the third straight season Bananas and Cooks have met in week one. The record going into this year? 1-1. Cooks is now one up, and is comfortably in second spot behind his dad in the Dude division. Banana's players just didn't measure up this week, though - even if he had started them all perfectly he only had a potential of 52 (this is the "coulda won" stat in the team owners stats.)

12. Hefeweizens ( 60) 3. Short Line ( 45)
Texas Battle 1. Newcomers Hefe seems to have gotten the hang of this pretty quick! 60 points is veerrry respectable. What's scary is he had plenty in reserve - potential points for Hefe was 81. The Y'all is very much resembling the Dude in parity this year... Shortline, never a slouch when it comes to putting up good numbers, does it again this week with 45 points, coaching over 80%. That's a win most weeks. Short Line will contend.

7. Schmenster's ( 27) 6. The Hawks ( 33)
My favorite matchup this week essentially because of one stat - Hawks coaches 50% and puts up 33 of his possible 66.... in a win! If either of these teams had started their bench players - they'd have won. What was I saying about parity...?

9. Kenitos Krunch ( 54) 1. DriftWoodies ( 62)
Oh yeah - Here's your parity. Krunch is back, with a vengeance. Given a normal Ram like day for Faulk, and this game and possibly the high point could have been his. But remarkably he was held to 1.9 yards per on 10 carries (but still managed to score 9 points!). Krunch was up by 3 going into last night, but Woodies takes advantage of a dismal Pittsburgh showing where they coughed the ball up 5 times to the Woodies NE defense and takes the win away from Krunch.

The Free Agent market is now open until Midnight Wednesday. Still missing some of your passwords!

09-09-02
Oh man! What an opening day of football! Now I've seen it all - the KC / CLE game, the Texas game, the Packer game, etc., take your pick - there wasn't a game yesterday that wasn't fun to watch. A collective 471 fantasy points scored so far - 209 in the Dude, 262 in the Y'all. And usually in the beginning of the season defense rules.

As usual we have 3 categories of games...

Done:

Cooks (55+) over Bananas (42)
Cooks started Priest Holmes and that's all that has to be said. They handed the ball to Holmes 22 times and 122 yards and 4 TD's later he gives Cooks 28 points. That's Faulk type numbers, friends. Where was the D? Bananas put up very respectable numbers - 42 - and is done, but the Holmes factor was just too much - Cooks put up a total of 55 and can pile on with Kordell Stewart tonight.

Hefe (52+) over Short (45)
A remarkable bit of irony - First year Texas team put the hurt on a perennial playoff contender from the same state... Texans over the Cowboys? Nah - Hefe over Shortline! Short, like Bananas puts up very respectable numbers - 45, and is done. But  big numbers from RB Steven Davis, Payton Manning, and Miami's D and Hefe is sitting with 52 with RB Bettis and WR Ward tonight to pile on with.

Call 'em done:

Marvs (81), Squids (60+)
A remarkable coaching display from Marv's who started 81 of his potential 82 points. Clicking on all cylinders, Marv's puts up the score to beat for this week's and the season's high point. Hey Squids - don't you hate it when you put up enough points to beat anyone in the league that week - anyone except your opponent? Squids has never - going back to 1998 never - scored 60 points in a game. And it looks like it will be all for not, unless Squids can eek 21+ points out of K Peterson and the formidable Pittsburgh D. Not unheard of, but not likely... but this is the first week of the NFL and look what's happened already. Perhaps I should move this game to the next category...

Too close to call / needs Monday night:

Smoke (26), One Man (26+)
I would put this in the "Call 'em done" but for the player that One Man has going tonight - WR Troy Brown. Nothing against Brown, but it is not unheard of for a WR to put a goose egg, or fumble one away... One Man started 'em ok - just no one stepped up. Loser of this one picks up the low point and first dibs in the free agent market this week.

Hawks (33), Schmen(27+)
Hawks. Warner, Dillon, Tim Brown, Holt, Carney, Philly D.......  33 points. In a day of monster offenses, the STL offense did not click, and Hawks started 3 Rams. Warner has an off day only tossing 315 yards (sheesh!) but with no TD's it's only 4 points. (Keep starting them Hawks - any given week they could all blow up and you'll see Martian's type numbers.) Schmen is nipping on Hawks heels needing 6 points from RB Antowain Smith for a tie, 7 for the win.

Krunch (54), Woodies(51+)
Krunch is all done at 54, pulling in respectable scores from all his starters. The difference - no Faulk.  Marshall was limited to 19 yards rushing. That's no misprint - 19 yards on 10 carries! That's a measly 1.9 YPC. He got his yards through the air though - 91 of 'em. Woodies will have the NE Defense going tonight to try to make up the 3 point deficit.

Monday Night Football - NE vs. PIT tonight!

I'm out!

Hey! Ever wonder how you are doing in the middle of the Sunday games and this durn page hasn't been updated with the scores etc.? Hey! We Commish's have a life too, you know. Or sometimes we like to watch the games instead of updating this site... So why not use the same software we have to run a plethora of reports or get the latest stats? The owners software is FREE! (well, not really - it uses the league file generated by the Commissioner's FLM, which the league pays $40.00 for) The owners software is IDENTICAL except you can't update or make any changes to the league. The link to get it is on the left. Once you install it, get the current league file (owners file) from virtually any page (make sure you get the current one - we pump a new one up every time we get a lineup, etc.) - open it in the software and click "update" Voila! you get the current stats - how you are doing against your opponent, etc. The stats are generally updated at the end of each quarter on Sunday, sometimes more often. Check it out!

Lineup in from Hawks / Short. August news / info moved to the Archive page.

09-06-02
A couple of marquee players players going last night, and the G-men did a pretty good job of shutting them down. Both Garcia and Owens were selected in the first round and they put up a collective 5 points. The Giants game plan was perfect against the 49ers as they had them pretty well shut down. I don't think anyone would argue they would have won, too were it not for Kerry Collins stellar 3 interception performance... His yardage looked good though - 342, with Amani Toomer the major recipient - he had 9 catches for 134.

Garcia went 16-26-1-166, while Owens, facing massive double teams, only had 4 catches for 41 all night. I think Mooch better figure this one out because it's not like teams aren't going to NOT double team Owens...

Owen's low production shouldn't hurt One Man as she faces Smoke this week, who was saddled with an assignment draft...

Schmen could have used more from Garcia. His opponent, the Hawks will surely start Kurt Warner on Sunday.

Week One marches on!

Alright! Week one of the NFL Season is here. Some good chatter going on at the message board.  And just in case any of you have any 49ers or Giants on your roster:

THURSDAY GAME!!!

For those of you new (and those of you not) what this means is, if you have a 49er or Giant on your roster, you need to make a start/bench decision for those players by Thursday, :30 minutes before published start time. As usual, don't leave it 'till the last second - risky.

Let's review the pertinent rule:

"For Thursday games, a preliminary roster must be submitted 30 minutes before the first Thursday game. Failure to do so will result in the previous week's roster being used for those players in the Thursday game(s) that were in your starting lineup the previous Sunday. Other players in your previous Sunday lineup that are not involved in the Thursday game(s) may still be benched or started for the Sunday games. A "DOH" will be given for any rollover. At this time, the start/bench status of all players whose teams are involved in the Thursday games are fixed. Players from teams not playing on Thursday can be benched or started until the deadline of Saturday or Sunday. Failure to submit a new roster by Sunday's deadline will result in the use of the full pre-Thursday roster. The goal of this provision is to remove some of the luck involved in predicting injury/starting status of Sunday's games on Wednesday. Teams are also responsible for "unstarting" a player that is involved in a Thursday night game if you do not wish them to be on your starting roster that week. This obviously only applies if they were on your starting roster for the previous week, therefore eligible as a "rollover starter"."

"But wait!" you say, there is no previous week in play here. Well, let's look at the other pertinent rule:

"For the first week of the season, the default roster will be determined by order players were drafted. filling each required starter position in order. If a TE was drafted before the 3rd WR, the TE will start."

So, that is to say, if you have a 49er or Giant on your roster, and fail to submit, your draft order will be your rollover lineup for your Thursday players - and you get one "DOH".

Confused? Easy fix - just submit a lineup if you have:

  • SF: QB Garcia, RB Hearst, RB Barlow, WR Owens, WR Stokes, TE Johnson, SF D.

  • NYG: QB Collins, RB Barber, RB Dayne, WR Toomer, WR Hilliard.

Your pre-Thursday submission can be nothing more than a comment stating your desire to not start your player, then you have until Sunday to submit your full lineup.

Stay tuned to this page - more info will follow this week!

08-30-02
I believe I now have the Free Agent request form working correctly now. I ask each team owner to test it before the infamous week 2 shopping spree.

Use the link above or easier yet, on the left to get to your individual page. Make sure you are on your page. It's pretty tough to miss - your name is emblazoned on it along with your team logo, if you have submitted one (otherwise you get that crappy looking helmet with your team number).

  • FA pickup pages work much like the lineup submission pages:

    • A  password is required but is not verified until we use it in the flm program.

    • An email is sent to both commissioners, as well as a confirmation email sent to you.

    • As in all previous years and, as matter of standard practice, the commissioners will always send a reply to any email received, hence you will receive two emails back - one generated from the request, and one from the commish confirming he got it.

However, unlike the lineup submission pages,  there is no verification of whether you have the player to drop,  nor whether the player you are looking to pick up is available. This is still up to you to request intelligently.

Please give the new page a test, filling in the fields as you see fit. Make sure you get your automatic  confirmation email from the submittal.

Look forward to seeing your test emails come through.

Here comes season #5. CaComm and I have been busy getting the season ready. Here are a few key notes:

New / Old owners. Shasta Old Timers FFL welcomes and welcomes back:

  • An original owner - Up and Smoke is in for 2002. His last stint was back in year 1 (1998). How'd he do? 3rd place in the regular season standings... without access to the Internet!

  • One Man Short of a Full Roster - back from her hiatus, this two time (1998-1999) is ready to pick up where she left off... make no mistake - One Man is a tough matchup.

  • To balance the league a new owner was added to the Y'all division. Please welcome Hefenweizer from Austin, TX. A more formal introduction, including a name will be sent via Email.

8 team playoff format -

  • Now that the league is to 12 teams, the playoff bracket will now include the top 4 teams. This means that the division winner will not receive a first round bye. Not to worry Division Winners / First Round Losers - we have a special award just for you. Winning the division is arguably the most difficult task all year. Giving the first round bye to the winners last year guaranteed them to make it to the second round of the playoffs and into the money. This year, if you win your division but lose in the first round - you get $25.00. Win in the first round and the money stays in the kitty, making the percentage payoffs that much richer.

Draft -

  • TxComm's wife has graciously offered to run the software this year, freeing the commissioners to be owners, and attempt to draft decently. However, as she is new with the software, TxComm may have to exercise the "running / assisting in running the software" clause in the draft rules and require a little extra time.

  • Draft order is posted on the rules page.

Rules page has been updated with all the above info. All new for 2002 is in red.
