Iliad's science officer is Lieutenant M'Dray Kelly. The science labs are equipped to support a number of research teams whose assignments are designed to take advantage of the fact that the ship is a mobile research platform whose assignments will take it through a very large volume of space. Secondary missions can also include stellar mapping, planetary surveys and lifeform studies.
In "extended mission configuration", the Iliad includes facilities to support approximately twenty specialized mission teams depending in team sizes and the types of investigations being undertaken.
