BARBARA ANDERSON
"Conscience
of the King"
A few years after appearing on "Star
Trek", Barbara Anderson would land a role as Officer Eve Whitfield on the
acclaimed television series "Ironside" (1967) where she would go toe to toe
with Raymond Burr and hold her own in splendid fashion.
She won an Emmy in only her first season.
Sparkling blue eyes and golden blonde hair, Miss Anderson never really
achieved the success that matched her great beauty and talent.
Still, she was a splendid and veteran actress of television and film.
In "Conscience of the King", she portrays actor Lenore Karidian. Part of a space traveling troupe headed by her father, Kodos,
who is accused of genocide. Miss Anderson must have done cartwheels when she
landed the part, an actors dream role. She
is an actor doing Shakespeare and the demented daughter of a mass murderer hiding
from his past. Gliding onto the set
like some glamorous swan in several stunning dresses, everything and everyone
seems to brighten considerably when she is on the set. With so many costume changes and a character of great depth,
it had to be a fun role in many ways and Miss Anderson bites into it with gusto.
As she crumbles on the stage in madness, the scene mirrors the play,
"King Lear". Her
performance is quite good and the many thankful close-ups combine to make it one
of the most unforgettable episodes and performances in the history of "Star
Trek".
