Ease Up On Players Says Nash
From Xtra, May 2, 2002
Retiring international cricketer Dion Nash has added his voice
to the chorus calling for a less hectic schedule for our top
players.
Nash has announced he is stepping down from all cricket, after
a decade-long career dotted with injury.
He says enforced breaks from the game have made him appreciate
it more, but this year he hasn't been as motivated to claw
his way back again.
Nash says the injury rate of top players is a world-wide problem,
and options such as scheduling and the rotation of players
have to be looked at.
He's convinced he has made the right decision in stepping
down from the game for good.
He says he waited till he'd recovered from the latest in a
long line of injuries to make the final decision, but now
it's time to get on with other things in life.
Nash says the worst thing about his string of injuries was
having to watch others play ... but he reckons his spells
on the sideline made him appreciate the game more.
Dion Nash says he is planning to travel with his fiance, netballer
Bernice Mene who has also announced her retirement from top
level competition, and will be doing some post-graduate study.
