Good news on Nash
From Stuff, February 6, 2001
At last a piece of encouraging news
from New Zealand Cricket's medical files - allrounder Dion
Nash is eyeing a comeback for the one-day series against Pakistan
later this month.
Nash has been unable to bowl for four
months because of a back injury but he marked his return to
the crease with three wickets from 11 overs for Auckland against
Central Districts in a Shell Trophy match at Palmerston North
on Friday and Saturday.
Chairman of selectors Sir Richard
Hadlee watched Nash and later approached him about a possible
return in the one-dayer against Sri Lanka in Auckland tomorrow,
but Nash has requested more time.
"He basically said he was very,
very keen to come back but just wanted a wee bit more time,"
Hadlee said.
"I was impressed with what I
saw in Palmerston North. He was off his normal run and was
getting the ball through nicely so it is great news."
The key to Nash's international prospects
is how his back recovers from the increased stress of bowling
on a regular basis. Up till the match against Central Districts
he had been playing as a specialist batsman.
