Williams fined $15k for cursing NY fans

Earlier this season, Sacramento Kings guard Jason Williams made an obscene gesture toward fans. Six days ago, he opted for profanity. The NBA got the message both times. NBA senior vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson fined Williams $15,000 on Tuesday for directing profanity at fans during Wednesday's 122-101 victory at Golden State. On Dec. 1, Williams was fined $10,000 for making an obscene gesture toward fans. Often a target of fans with his flashy play, Williams also was suspended for the first five games of the 1999-2000 season for failing to comply with the NBA's anti-drug policy.

Jason Williams Mock Draft Profile : Drafting pros and cons

The following is pieces of an interview The Magazine's Ric Bucher was doing on Chris Webber in the locker room and caught some of Jason's views on higher education:

First he's talking about buying a college degree and putting it in his father's Christmas stocking, then he concludes that whatever time he spent on studying was too much. "I wish I'd spent more time on my jump shot than learning to read and write," he says. "'Cause it's not what you know, it's who you know." I don't think he's kidding.

As he talks, JWill sits in front of his locker, furiously dribbling a basketball with his left hand -- the ball so low to the lockerroom carpet it could be simply vibrating. JWill shifts the topic to the Europeans in the room, Peja and Vlade. "You've been getting paid since you were 12," says Darrick Martin to Peja, who simply grins as he stretches on the floor. Divac boasts that three years of European education is worth 10 in the U.S. system. "Oh, I'm sure of that," JWill says. "I know any of yours has to be better than mine." Hedo Turkoglu walks in from warming up and sits down next to JWill. Someone asks him if he has his degree. JWill answers for him. "Sure he does," he says, pretending to palm Turkoglu's dome. "Look at the knowledge up here."

Kings' Williams Fined

NEW YORK, Dec. 1 -- Sacramento Kings guard Jason Williams has been fined $10,000 for directing profanity and obscene gestures toward fans, NBA Senior Vice President, Basketball Operations, Stu Jackson announced today. The incident occurred at the conclusion of Sacramento's 82-79 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at the Alamodome on Nov. 29

Jason Williams sprained his right ankle and was taken to the locker room early in the third quarter of the Sacramento Kings' game against the Los Angeles Lakers on a Thursday night in November. Williams pulled up at midcourt with 11:21 left in the 3rd quarter. He collapsed in front of the scorers' table, and teammates helped him off the court as he favored the ankle. Williams did not return to the game. Williams, the Kings' flamboyant point guard and floor leader, was having his best game since beginning the season on a five-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy. Williams had 11 points and seven assists in the first half with just one turnover.

SACRAMENTO, Nov. 12/99 - Sacramento Kings guards Nick Anderson and Jason Williams presented local arson victim Asia Akins with a check for $3000 following yesterday's (11/11) practice at the California Highway Patrol Academy in West Sacramento.

Akins and her six-year-old daughter, August, lost nearly all of their clothes, furniture, and other possessions when their apartment was burned down after teenagers tossed flares through their window on Halloween night (10/31). Fortunately, August, who was asleep inside, was rescued by Akins boyfriend Artria Lewis. However, Lewis was unable to retrieve any of the family's belongings before fire ravaged the apartment. Anderson and Williams were affected after reading about the tragedy in the Sacramento Bee and decided to join the efforts of Sacramento police officer Renee Mitchell in making a donation to the family. Part of the donated money will go toward replacing August's collection of books and Disney videos.

Media members who are attending today's practice must register at the administration building upon entering the CHP Academy.
