NICOLE AND LORETTA DON'T SHOW AT
YAMAGUCHI
Nicole Hackett and Loretta Harrop
didn't show up at Yamaguchi for the weekend's ITU World Cup
race.
I must admit I was surprised when I
didn't see them anywhere in the results listing...
Thanks a heap to ITU's Media Man Nici
Andronicus for the info!.
AUSSIE MEN REIGN SUPREME IN
YAMAGUCHI
The Aussie men had a field day, taking
the Top FIVE places - way to go! :)
In order, they were, Chris Hill
(1.50:29), Greg Bennett (1.50:39), Simon Thompson (1.51:49), Bryce
Quirk and Miles Stewart.
In the women, Mel Ashton was the
top placed Aussie in 4th with a time of 2.04:59. After having the 9th
fastest swim, Ashton pushed hard on the bike and during then ran with
Nakinishi (JPN) until the 30,000 strong, patriotic home crowd helped
spur the local gal home into 3rd place with a P.B. run split and her
first ever World Cup podium finish. A great result by Mel all the
same.
For the other Aussies Liz Blatchford
was 7th with Annabel Luxford DNF-ing. Jane Kargotich finished
20th.
(Thanks to ITU's Nici Andronicus for
help with some content featured in this report)
**At this point in time Iam presuming
Nicole Hackett and Loretta Harrop did not start, but I do not know
any reason as to why.

TA ISSUES ATHLETES WITH AN
ULTIMATUM...
Close too it, anyway.
A new summer series, run and endorsed
by Triathlon Australia is set to see the end of the F1 series which
has seen many of Australia's Triathlete's, including Nicole Hackett,
break into the 'big time'
Triathlon Australia's director, Tim
Wilson, puts it clearly when he says "That will be a decision the
athletes themselves will have to make, But if they want to be
considered for the Commonwealth Games, Australian championships,
Olympics and Australian triathlete of the year award, they'll have to
compete in our series." (SMH)
It looks like the Kia F1 Series (which
is to have a new sponsor this summer) will be left in the lurch, with
Ch 10 also throwing it's weight behind the new series.
It would almost be un-realistic to
think that pro athletes wouldn't choose the series which gains them
consideration for the events/titles as fore mentioned, it will be
interesting to say the least, to see how Online Sports Marketing (F1
series organsiers) will react to this.
The new series will be run over the
'Olympic' distance (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run) with a total of
$350,000 prize money.
Tim Wilson was booked up to discuss
things such as sponsorship and venues on Friday, with the outcome of
those not yet known.
