MTV: When did you guys first start recording this thing? How long ago was it?
Robert DeLeo: Well, we hadn't seen each other for probably...
Dean DeLeo: Just answer the question.
Robert: [Laughs] We hadn't seen each other for probably a year and a half, all through and after the Talk Show [album] and Scott's solo endeavor. We got together in September of last year and had a little meeting about what we wanted to do and where we were with health and everything, and since the holidays were coming up, we kind of waited 'til the first of the year. So on the first or second week of January is when we started getting songs together, and all through that time that we had off, there was probably an accumulation of 40 or 50 songs that we had to go through, so a pre-production situation that normally takes two to three weeks was seven to eight weeks and just a good long time to sort through all the material that we had. So we started back in January.
Dean: There you go: "January." [Laughs]
MTV: In the time between the last album and this album, was there ever a question that another album would come out? Was that something that needed to be discussed as well?
Robert: Ah, smart-ass over there. [Laughs]
Dean: I always knew we'd get another record together.
Robert: I think that we have too much to offer. I mean, I feel like we have a lot to offer. I think once we start feeling that, I think the making of a record becomes a little dimmer.
