The original
PC version of Wolfenstein 3d launched the First-Person-Shooter genre.
It was a landmark in video game technology and was wildly popular for
its Nazi-basing content. So how does the snes port stand? Read on to get
the details....
Graphics: (5/10) I don't think Super Nintendo
is the best platform for fps games. It really just doesn't have the power
needed to run 3d graphics. But the designers made a valiant effort and
the final product isn't too shabby! One of my biggest gripes is that this
version drops the Nazi theme. I guess that was a little to risky for the
Nintendo people. Pictures of Hitler on the wall have been changed to "some
guy" and all the swastikas have been taken out. Lame.....
Sound: (4/10) The original Wolf 3d tracks
are preserved in all their glory. The guns all sound pretty much the same.
But the "Nazis" don't yell "Achtung!" or "Mein
Lebin!" anymore. Instead they say things like "Stop." I
dunno, Wolfenstein just isn't the same without the Nazis!
Fun: (6/10) The original gameplay is preserved
in this port. That means, run into a room, shoot everyone, grab all items,
continue on.... It can get a bit repetitive but its also a good way to
let off some steam. This is original shoot em up action here folks. Cherish
it.
Creativity: (7/10) Even though this is a
port, I'm sure it took a lot of inovative thinking to get this 3d shooter
running on a console. We should all send thank you notes to id Software
for developing the original Wolfenstein 3d.
Multi-Player:
That would be impossible!
