My experience with water gardening is small because of lack of funds. I could picture myself with a large pond teaming with koi and exotic plants but this is what I came up with.
I started with an old bearclaw tub. Dug this huge hole and droped it in. Then I spray painted it black so the tub wouldn't look dirty all the time. I made a trip down to the creek bed for flat rocks and layered them in the middle of the tub so frogs and other things getting in could get out when they wanted.
I connected a pcv pipe to the runoff at the top off the tub and ran it off to a flower bed and buried it.
Next I went down to this mud hole we call a pond and dug up a grass like plant. I put it and plenty of mud in a large black flower pot. I arranged it near the front of the tub to hide the runoff hole. And wala! Instant, cheap and nice little pond.
I've had goldfish, turtles and frogs in it but the frogs do the best. Being black I don't have to clean it out and the frogs seem to come for miles to live in it!
