After breakfast we set off across the gravel plain, flat and boring until we came across some large dunes on our way to SAIWAN an old abandoned oil camp, nothing of which exists anymore except for a mark on a PDO map.
We continued along the track which was frequently covered by small drifting dunes, which we had to work our way around to avoid deflating and inflating tyres, although some sand driving was necessary. This caused the inexperienced Rav 4 drivers to become stuck on occasions. We stopped at a couple of places to examine shell fossils and a flint site
