A crab in a shell – climbing up a horizontal pole of our Banda!
Absolutely amazing! |
Catch of the day – all in a day’s work |
The ferry arriving at South Beach from Dar es Salaam |
Crystal clear water to swim in! And an added bonus is it very warm! |
Whilst waiting we have had our fair share of rain – I suppose it should
be expected, after all this is the rainy season! The rains are not quite
monsoon, but not too far off it. Anyway the upshot of it was that some
culverts before and after a major bridge on the main road to Moshi and
Arusha have been washed away. The alternative would be to go back to
Morongoro and try the Dodoma road, which is reported to be in a very
poor condition. Or alternative wait it out, we are waiting anyway so we
wait.
Good news the bridge has been temporary repaired. Next day, bad news, a
truck drove into the temporary bridge, killing him and two others! I
have no idea how he managed it, but understand that this is something
that happens regularly! Good news the bridge is back in operation
although the traffic is slow.
Henri and Jenny decide to take their chances and go in the hopes that
the bridge is in operation and that the traffic is not too bad.
Mr W on the ferry |
A typical ‘dala dala’ - as in South Africa they are usually packed to
capacity - our record was 24 souls plus their goods (crates of beer, 50
kg sacks of maize etc) |
Having finally received our carnet – grateful thanks to all the staff at
DHL Dar es Salaam, we head for the hills again! We never learn. Also
Moshi and Arusha – the next exciting episode to follow.
