As can be seen, Joseph was able to sign his name, although Phoebe merely made her 'mark.'

The witnesses were John Parrish (Phoebe's brother) and Richard Fiddian (a parish clerk.) Note that John Parrish spelt his name with two rr's - this spelling variation was the family's preference and appears in other documents and on the family graves in Wordsley Churchyard.
