The
Biggest Bombs Of the Year: The Mountain (WB) The WB would like to forget all about this series, but I'm not about to let them. Despite early hype and inital ratings promise, viewership fell through the floor and never recovered. It finished the season in 176th place, making it the lowest rated scripted show on the air. The only new programming rated lower was "Big Man On Campus," which aired over Christmas on the WB. One week it recorded just 1.1 million viewers, setting an all time low for the network. No, WB, we won't let you forget about this one. Joey (NBC) NBC assured us early on that "Joey" was not going to be "Friends." When it premiere to move than 18 million viewers, things actually looked promising, but by the end of the season it was drawing 10 million viewers less than that. Cracking 10 million viewers only three times since January and finishing the season out of the top 40, "Joey" is the biggest high profile bomb of the year. The Complex: Malibu (Fox) What does it take to become one of the network's lowest rated series ever? not a whole lot- just ask "The Complex." Buried on Fridays, this show averaged a mere 2.43 million viewers and finished the season in 173rd place, The Will (CBS) Despite a season when most things went okay, "The Will" proved that CBS could still have a black out. It made it to just one airing, finishing the season as CBS's lowest rated series ever. Johnny Zero (Fox) But Fox, this was supposed to be a hit! Drawing only 3.65 million viewers and episode, ratings actually did approach "Zero." Jake In Progress (ABC) ABC promoted the hell out of it, gave it a good send off in a good timeslot, and then it got killed, by "Joey" no less. Back to back airings averaged about 5.4 million viewers, making it ABC's lowest rated scripted series on the air. And it still got a second season. ABC must know something that we don't. The Office (NBC) Not a bad show at all: NBC gave it ample promotion, it had buzz in the critical world, it had fans of the British series that should have followed it across the pond, but in the end, the show averaged a puny 5.4 million viewers in what used to be one of NBC's premiere timeslots. However, like "Jake," it got a second season. It's a good year to be a bomb. My Wife & Kids (ABC) The show moved to Tuesdays and hit a snag- viewers tuned out in droves. "Idol" was a factor, but the show was really dead even before "Idol" came onto the scene. The Simple Life (Fox) Watch Fox move a hit show all over the schedule! Watch that show promply die! Since February, the show has aired Wednesdays at 8, 8:30, 9, 9:30, Thursdays 9 and 9:30pm. It wasn't doing that well on Wednesday, but viewers completely abandoned it on Thursday as the show plunged to a mere 4 million viewers, half of what it was drawing for the second edition last summer. I'm not a fan of the show, but Fox really went out of its way to kill it. The Starlet (WB) The WB's latest reality entry went down in flames with only 2.16 million viewers caring enough to watch. So far, the WB is the only network that has been unable to launch a hit reality show, and that had been a big factor in its decline during the past two seasons. |
