And it
was a fall tv season
that will go down in the record books..... just joking. Compared to the
last few years, this fall was one of the calmest (and most boring)
we've
seen in a very long time. Just as happened last season, CBS is leading
the pack in total viewers, though NBC has a choke hold on adults 18-49
and 25-54. ABC is a vastly improved third. Improved, however, may be
the
wrong word to use. It's still down over last season, but the bleeding
has
just about dried up. Last spring was when the network really died, so
if
it can keep the momentum going, ABC may just come out on top of last
season
yet.
Fox, the perennially
fourth rated
net, still is just that. After an exciting start for a few series, they
(as in "Cedric," "Fastlane" and "John Doe") all settled into
mediocrity
and the net is barely treading water. The real winner of the season has
been the WB which is seeing its highest ratings ever. And the UPN? It's
given back all the gains it made last season and then some.
In this section, the
largest I've
put together in quite some time, I'm going to look at the fall tv
season
from a variety of angles. You can take a look at the final ratings
chart,
making it plain and simple. But if you want to get a real look at how
series
are doing behind the simple million of viewers, look at the new/old
series
performance ranks. An explanation of the system can be found in last
year's
fall tv review.
To get there, or just
to reminisce
about season's past, last year's link is here
for old series, or here
for new series. Or go even further, way
back to 2000. That seems like a century ago, no?
