Losers
The
UPN: Just
one season after it blew out of the gate, it blew right back in. The
season
started off just-okay, but kept getting worse. None of its series were
up over last season, and some, like "Buffy" and "Enterprise" lost
copious
amounts of viewers. New dramas failed, "Half & Half" was
half-successful.
It all add up to something not worth remembering.
ABC's
dramas:
MD's. That Was Then. Miracles. Veritas. ABC tried a cornicopia of new
dramas
this season, but absolutely nothing worked. Even "Dragnet," the sole
new
drama to be renewed, was weak at best. Like the UPN, it's
something
not worth remembering.
All
American
Girl: Unlike the net's
dramas, "AMG" is worth remembering. Why? It's a sore reminder that not
all reality series worked. Even airing after "The Bachelor," this one
was
dead from the start, eventually plunging below the 4mil viewer mark.
Fox's
dramas:
Needless to say, it was not a good year for dramas on many networks.
Even
as Fox took off on reality, the flop dramas are hard to forget. The
season
got off to a bad start with "girls club," which was followed by
"Firefly,"
"Fastlane," "John Doe" and even "Boston Public." With all these hit
reality
hours, Fox has to launch a drama, stat! The number three rated network
has to have more than "24," because, as CBS, the WB and NBC have
proved,
long term success hinges on dramas.
NBC
Tuesday:
NBC has openly admitted that Tuesday was an unmitigated disaster. Just
like they did last year. If you know this, why don't you do something
about
it? "Frasier" dived to record lows surrounded by duds like "Just Shoot
Me," "AUSA," "Hidden Hills," "Watching Ellie" and "The In Laws." Am I
forgetting
any? For this, NBC walked away withthe distinction of having the most
sitcoms
cancelled on any night of any network. Bravo. [sly reference to NBC's
Bravo
network. Give yourself a point if you got that one.
