PantsYahtzee Online

How to play

Yahtzee is a game with Chinese origins. It is played with dice, and is vaguely similar to Poker. You get five dice, and you have three throws to score as many points as you can.

After each throw, you can either choose to hold the dice you are happy with and throw the others again, or you can choose a slot in which to score. You MUST choose a slot in which to score after your third throw, if you have not done so already.

You can score each slot only once. If your throw cannot score in any of the available slots, you must choose one in which to score 0.

How to score

There are two sections to score in: Upper and Lower.

Upper Section

In the Upper section, there are six score slots, from Ones to Sixes. These are scored by adding the number of the appropriate dice together.

For example, if you throw:

you could score as follows:

  • Ones - 0 (as there are no 1's)
  • Twos - 2 (as there is one 2)
  • Threes - 0 (as there are no 3's)
  • Fours - 8 (as there are two 4's)
  • Fives - 0 (as there are no 5's)
  • Sixes - 12 (as there are two 6's)

If your Upper Section score totals 63 or greater, you are awarded a bonus of 35 points.

Lower Section

In the Lower section there are seven score slots. These work as follows:

  • Three of a kind

If you roll three dice the same, total all the dice together, and score the result here.

    For example:

scores 5+5+2+4+5 = 21, as there are three 5's. If you DON'T have three of a kind, this box will score 0.

  • Four of a kind

As above, except four dice must be the same.

  • Full House

If you have three of one number and two of another you have a Full House, and you can score 25 in this box. For example:

scores 25. If you DON'T have a Full House, then you score 0 here.

  • Low Straight
    Short Straight in USA version

If you have four consecutive numbers, then you have a Low Straight, and you can score 30 here. For example:

scores 30, as there is 1, 2, 3 and 4. If you DON'T have a Low Straight, then you score 0 here.

  • High Straight
    Long Straight in USA version

If you have five consecutive numbers, then you have a High Straight, and you can score 40 points here.

  • Chance

Use this section when you cannot score anywhere else. You score the total of all your dice. For example:

    scores 6+4+2+4+1 = 17.

  • Yahtzee

If you roll five dice the same, then you have a Yahtzee and can score 50 points here.

A Yahtzee can also be used as a joker for full marks in Full House, Low Straight or High Straight. It can also be treated as any other roll, to be scored in the Upper Section, or for three or four of a kind. If you have already scored 50 points for a Yahtzee, then subsequent Yahtzees earn 100 bonus points each. This was introduced in version 1.06 to reflect actual Yahtzee rules.
