Lucky came back home after an hour of walking. When he came
inside and closed the door, Laura immediately stood up.
Laura: Where have you been?
Lucky: I had to go for a walk and clear my head.
Laura: Where's your father? Did he go with you?
Lucky: No. He's not here? I left him on the steps.
Laura: No. He never came back inside. What happened outside?
Lucky: Nothing much. Just some of the same. He talked, I listened, and then it ended. Simple as that.
Laura: Did he give any indication that he was leaving?
Lucky: I didn't pay that close attention. I'm sorry if I can't help you here, Mom, but I really could care less where he goes. It's better off if he's not here. Then I won't have to look at him.
Laura: Lucky, don't you dare speak that way of your father again! I'm really tired of you acting like the authority on what happened to us back then. You don't have a clue and it's really none of your business. It happened before we were married and before you were born. It doesn't concern you.
Lucky: How doesn't it concern me? I am trying to help a rape victim out who happens to be my friend. How can I when the people who raised me don't even know that rape is a crime? You act like it was just one obstacle you had to face before getting married. That's sick.
Laura: You'll never understand it, Lucky. Maybe I won't either, but I do know that I love your father and wouldn't trade him for the world. He has been nothing but caring and loving since we got together, and that's what you should base your opinion of him on. Not one incident that happened almost 20 years ago.
Lucky: You know, I'm not going to say what you want to hear, so why don't we just end this conversation now. If Dad ran off, then good for him. Maybe now he realizes what he did was wrong and can never be erased.
Lucky went up to his bedroom and Laura went back over to the couch to sit down. She didn't have to question why Luke tried to kill himself if he had to be attacked by his son every second. If she was only here when all of this came out, maybe she could have prevented some of this from happening. But as she can see, Lucky could care less what her point of view was.
Lesley came down stairs and saw her daughter on the couch.
Les: I overheard. He's really angry.
Laura: Yeah. I don't know what to say to him to make him understand.
Les: He's going to have to come up with an understanding in his own time, Laura. What about Luke?
Laura: I don't know. He's not here. He may have gone to the club, but it's not like him to take off without letting me know. I'm worried he may try to kill himself again.
Les: Why don't you go see if he is at the club then? I'll stay home and watch the kids. You have to take care of your husband.
Laura: Thanks, Mom.
Laura gives Les and kiss and leaves the house to go to the club.
At the club, Luke is at his desk, getting more drunk every second. Sonny walks in.
Sonny: Do you think you should be drinking like that?
Luke: What does it matter?
Sonny: You just got out of the hospital man. You need to take care of yourself.
Luke: I don't care anymore, Sonny.
Sonny: Did you and Laura have a fight?
Luke: No. She's not willing to fight with me. She wants us to be one big happy family again, and that's not going to happen. My son can't even look at me without disgust in his eyes. I can't take that anymore.
Sonny: This is not the way to ease your pain, Luke. Give your son some time. Right now, you need to focus on the rest of the family. You know, the ones that are trying to have a relationship again.
Luke: Can you just leave me alone right now? Don't worry, I took my gun away so I won't try to kill myself.
Sonny: Whatever you want. Just know that I'm here for you if you need to unload.
Sonny leaves and heads over to the bar. Laura walks in and heads straight for Sonny.
Laura: Is Luke here?
Sonny: He's in the back.
Laura: Well, he won't be able to hide so easily now. First he tries to kill himself and now he runs away without leaving word where he'll be. If I didn't love him so much, I could really kill him right now.
Sonny smiled as Laura headed for the back office. He had to admit, Luke was one lucky man to have gotten a wife like Laura.
Laura walks into Luke's office and sees Luke passed out with a bottle in his hand. She tries to shake him awake and nothing is working. She gets worried and calls Sonny in. Sonny walks in and tries to wake Luke up also, but he is also unsuccessful. Laura calls 911 and the ambulance comes.
Paramedic: What happened?
Laura: I don't know. As soon as I came in here, I noticed him passed out and I couldn't revive him.
Paramedic: His blood pressure has dropped a lot. We need to take him to General Hospital right away.
Laura: I'm going with you.
Paramedic: Who are you?
Laura: I'm his wife. Is that a problem for you?
Paramedic: Of course not, Ma'am. I'm sorry, but last time, this man said he had no family near by.
Laura: Well, I was away for a while, but I'm back now. And even though this conversation may be stimulating for you, my husband is the one who is in need of your attention. Not me.
The paramedics carry Luke into the ambulance and Laura sits by him the whole ride. During the ride, Luke started to spasm.
Paramedic: This man is having a heart attack. Come and help me over here.
Another paramedic joins him and they are able to save Luke long enough for the ride to the hospital there. Once there, he is rushed to OR and is barely holding on to his life.
