Monkey's Uncle

“Ooh, he’s cute, Xander,” Anya whispered as the tall man with the dark hair and bushy sideburns clambered into his truck.

“Excuse me? You’re not supposed to look at other men,” Xander mock-glared at her.

Anya smiled, turning her gaze on Tara. “What about other women?” she asked inquisitively.

Xander rubbed his chin, lost in thought. Tara grinned, and Anya smacked him affectionately.

“What about us? Can we look?” Willow piped up, nudging Tara. She called, “It was nice to see you again, Uncle Rory!” She blew an extravagant kiss. “It was especially nice to see him in that towel after his shower,” she added sotto voce.

Tara laughed. “I’m still not sure I believe that was an accident.”

Rory blew a kiss back to Willow. Xander blew one too, and Rory grinned. He started the truck and pulled away from the curb. “I’ll see you next time!” he yelled over the noise of the engine, and drove off.

Buffy linked her arm through Xander’s, and they started walking back to the Magic Box. “A little hairier than I usually like my men – ”

“At least he doesn’t have fangs,” Willow interrupted, shivering.

Buffy ignored her. “But on him, it works. Especially those pointy sideburns. He is awfully cute, Xander. Muscly, and cute.”

“I take after him,” Xander agreed. “Do you want my coat, Will?”

Smiling, she shook her head. “We’re nearly there.”

“So whose brother is he?” Anya asked, holding the door open and ushering the rest of them through. Giles looked up from serving a customer, and nodded in greeting. They went through to the back and dumped their coats.

“Neither. Though I guess he could be related.”

“Don’t you know?” Anya fluffed her hair.

“He lost his memory a few years back. He stayed in Sunnydale for a while and my parents made friends with him. One of the few good choices they ever made.” Xander was silent for a moment, lost in memory. “Actually, his name isn’t even ‘Rory’. I called him that, because he was so big and roared a lot, when he played with me. ‘Uncle Roar-y’.”

“Uncle Roar-y?” Buffy raised an eyebrow.

“I was young, okay?”

They walked out of the storeroom and sat around the table. Willow pulled a brown paper bag out of her backpack. “You guys have to try this fudge, it’s amazing! Xander, what’s his real name?”

Buffy groaned in pleasure as a chunk dissolved in her mouth. “Mm, chocolatey goodness.”

Xander took a piece and munched thoughtfully. “Man, that’s nice. Um, it’s ‘Logan’.”
