IT WAS NEVER
MEANT TO BE By Cheryl McCreary
"Love, Louise." Those words
spoke the truth. He knew that she had loved him. And not like the rest
of the riders. She loved him as a woman loves a man. But her heart belonged
to Kid. Even now in death, Kid still held her heart. Although they had
never spoken the words to each other, Jimmy knew that she loved him and
she knew that he loved her. And they had left it at that, unspoken words
and one kiss. That one unforgettable kiss.

JOURNALIST'S
TALE (THE) By Madison
"Naturally. But the young
lady he was with does too. Hickok immediately tossed one of his silver
guns to her. Without hesitation, she instantly rushed into the heat of
the battle with the gunfighter, firing right beside him."
"Girls can't shoot guns!"
Andy declared.
"Not true," I informed him.
"I saw this girl wound several of the outlaws. Not only did she help Wild
Bill defeat the gang, but she also got the deputy to safety." I could understand
how astonished the boys were, when I first saw the young woman do this,
I was amazed myself!"

KEEPING WATCH
By Becca
She was thin, almost too
thin, from the hard work and deprivation she'd endured just to keep the
small homestead alive. Her auburn hair was longer than when she'd last
seen him, almost three years ago now, and was held back at the nape of
her neck by a deep green ribbon that matched her skirt. The petite features
were still young, but her dark brown eyes showed a weariness, a maturity
born of worry and strife that surpassed her twenty-two years. The ache
she'd felt the day Kid had kissed them all good-bye and begun his journey
toward Virginia was as rich today as it had been then.

"Do you know your name?"
he asked. Lou automatically opened her mouth to answer then immediately

eyes, the man asked again, "Do you remember anything?"
Again Lou tried to remember
something, anything but nothing came out. "No," she replied, as tears rolled
down her cheeks.

LOST LOVE
By Tracy Eltrevoog
She lay remembering the last
time she saw her brother and the night her mother had told her he would
never come home. Louise, honey, Lucas can't come back. He's passed on now.
I'm sorry but you'll never see him again. The memories made the tears form
in her eyes again. She was never allowed to mention Lucas to anyone. No
one was to know how he had died or that he had ever even lived. She lied
to me, Louise thought. Why would she lie to me about my own brother? And
why didn't I remember him until now?

LOVE AND
BULLETS By Sandra Nitchman
Steeling his nerves, he plunged
on ahead. "Emma... I was wonderin' if you were planning on goin' to the
dance next Saturday."
"I wouldn't miss it." she
replied. Her dark eyes looked directly into his blue ones. "Why do you
ask?" For a moment he lost himself in her gaze, feeling, as much as seeing,
the sparkle that lit up her entire face. A lock of hair flew free of it's
restraint, waving about her face. Emma reached up and tucked it behind
her ear.
