Jesus!

Who is He?

Didn't He die?

Why did He come here in the first place?

Does that mean everyone will go to heaven now?

How can a person go to heaven?

Don't I have to do something to earn it?

Who is He?
The Bible teaches clearly that Jesus Christ was both God and man.

'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God' - John 1:1

'And the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and His kingdom will have no end.' And Mary said to the angel, 'How can this be, since I am a virgin?' And the angel answered and said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God.' - Luke 1:30-35

'And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.' - John 1:14

'For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, 'I will proclaim Thy name to My brethren, in the midst of the congregation I will sing Thy praise.' And again, 'I will put My trust in Him.' And again, 'Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.' Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.' - Hebrews 2:11-17

'And when the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, 'Truly this man was the Son of God!' - Mark 15:39

'My Lord and My God!' - (Thomas, to Jesus) John 20:28

Didn't He die?
Yes, but then, unlike other 'spiritual leaders', He arose from the grave!

'And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.' - Matthew 27:50

'And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.' - Mark 15:37

'And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, 'Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit.' And having said this, He breathed His last.' - Luke 23:46

'When Jesus therefore had received the sour wine, He said, 'It is finished!' And He bowed His head, and gave up His spirit.' - John 19:30

'Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. And so, because he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants upon his throne, he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay. This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.' - (Peter) Acts 2:29-32

'For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas [Peter], then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as it were to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.' - (Paul) 1 Corinthians 15:3-8

Why did He come here in the first place?
He came to make a way for us to be rightly related to God the Father, by making the payment we owed to God for our sins.

'For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' - (Paul) Romans 6:23

'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,' - (Paul) Romans 3:23

'The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.' - Psalm 14:2-3

'For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth. By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living, for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due? His grave was assigned with wicked men, yet He was with a rich man in His death, because He had done no violence, nor was there any deceit in His mouth. But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; if He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand. As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; by His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities. Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the booty with the strong; because He poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors.' - Isaiah 53:2-12

'O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?' - (Jesus, to Cleopas and his friend) Luke 24:25-26

'For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.' - (Paul) Romans 5:7-11

'and He Himself is the propitiation [offering, payment] for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.' - 1 John 2:2

Does that mean everyone will go to heaven now?
No. Jesus said not many would enter into this eternal 'right' relationship with God.

'Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.' - John 14:6

'Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide, and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter by it. For the gate is small, and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it.' - (Jesus) Matthew 7:13-14

'And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.' - (Jesus, to the Father) John 17:3

'Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.' - (Jesus) Matthew 7:22-23

How can a person go to heaven?
Through receiving by faith this payment Jesus has made on our behalf; by receiving Jesus Himself as Lord and Savior.

'Jesus answered and said to him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.' - John 3:3

'For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.' - (Jesus, to Nicodemus) John 3:16

'And he called for lights and rushed in and, trembling with fear, he fell down before Paul and Silas, and after he brought them out, he said, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' And they said, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household.' - (of jailer in Thyatira) Acts 16:29-31

'Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.' - 1 John 2:23-25

'that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.' - (Paul) Romans 10:9-11

'I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.' - (Paul) Galatians 2:20

'Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin, once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.' - (Paul) Romans 6:8-11

Don't I have to do something to earn it?
No. In fact, there is nothing you could possibly do to deserve the gift of eternal life in heaven with God.

'For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.' - (Paul) Ephesians 2:8-9

'We are Jews by nature, and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law, but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.' - (Paul) Galatians 2:15-16

'Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness indeed would have been based on the law. But the Scripture has shut up all men under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.' - (Paul) Galatians 3:21-22

If you have just come to that point in your own life where you realize your need for Jesus as your Savior, pray to Him. Tell Him your need for Him, repent (turn and go the other way) from your sins [that's 'confessing' Jesus as Lord with the way you live], and find a Bible teaching church where you can become a member. They should baptize you following your profession of faith in Christ, and then help you to grow and mature as a Christian believer.
