For those who must know
I'm Laura Haynes, a copy
editor at the Houston Chronicle. I've worked
at papers in Lubbock, Beaumont and Orange in
Texas; in Albany, N.Y.; and in Orlando, Fla.
I also worked at The (late) Houston Post,
from which I and a few hundred others were
liberated on April 18, 1995 when Billy Dean
Singleton slammed the doors. (But we are not
bitter.)
I graduated from the University of North
Texas in Denton in 1981 where I studied music
before packing it in to become a journalist.
After stints as police reporter,
entertainment editor and a TV/radio editor, I
turned to copy editing full time in 1988. On
the side, I've done radio gigs, edited the
odd newsletter and briefly served as a
college newspaper adviser.
Now I edit and lay out news and business
copy. I sometimes teach English as a Second
Language. And I'm a card-carrying member of
ACES.
