I am seveteen years old and first before I start to ramble, I would just
like to say that this is a very nice website, very informative. Ok now to my
real reason of writing. I was reading some of the "positive" responses. I
came across a lot that said to bring pray/God back to schools. Well for
those of you who have not yet heard there is this new thing that some high
schools have and its called Prayer at the Pole, this is where students by
their OWN FREE WILL can go and pray at the pole. Well at least my high
school does it. Anyways, are you people so blinded with your rose colored
glasses still? Bringing Prayer and God back into the school system wont
help. Yes you say you have live longer and know more then me but I believe
that we have a right to not pray in school. Personally I would feel very
uncomfortable, no I am not atheist I just do not believe in one particular
religion. You may find that atheist but it ISNT! You see I believe in God
and Jesus and the Bible I believe in Moses and the Ten Comandments, I
believe in Mary... Ok you get my drift (hopefully. What I am trying to say
is that not everyone is Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon..need I go on?
Bringing pray back into school would cause a MAJOR religous battle! What
religion would we use to pray with? Are we going to pray in english,
spanish, arab?? What about those who believe that you dont need to pray,
that God can hear everything? I mean doesnt he anyways? or isnt that what
people believe? He is the allseeing/knowing God right? well thats all I
spoke my mind

I think that your site is very informatve and it is a well put together
page. When I heard of the shootings, I asked myself "What is the world
coming to?". And you are 100% right, the two deranged students who commited
this frightning blood-bath WERE monters and I must say, I was absolutely
appauled at how many people responded to you by saying that they weren't
monsters and that they were juts misunderstood.
Harris and Klebold may have been misunderstood, but they still had no
right to kill 13 and wound 23 others. If you ask me, I do not agree with the
fact that nobody tried to be thier companions or friends. In every school,
(whether you like to admit it or not) there are the kind of people who want
to be everyone's friend, even those so called "outcasts". I am one of these
people. I treat everyone equally and I am not the one to make a bad
judgement, you have to admit, everyone has judged or has been judged before.
And in closing words, all of you people who have responded with negative
reactions, you should be ashamed of yourselves...

I AM STILL YOUNG,I STILL SURF THROUGH THESE WEBSITES AS IF I AM AN
ADULT I HAVE NEVER LIKED THE THOUGHT OF ANYONE GETTING KILLED WHEN THEY WERE
INNOCENT IF HAD BEEN IN THE POSITION AS THE KILLERS WERE I WOULD PROBABLY
TALK TO SOMEBODY OR AT LEAST TRY TO WORK OUT ALL MY PROBLEMS.I DO NOT REALLY
KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THE BOYS LIVES BUT I DO KNOW THAT IF I WAS IN A
VERY TERRIBLE SITUATION I WOULD PROBABLY KILL MYSELF AND NOT OTHERS THAT HAD
NOT DONE ANYTHING TO ME AT ALL.I HAVE READ BOOKS ON THIS SHOOTING AND KNOW
THAT ONE OF THE GIRLS THAT WERE KILLED WERE FULLY INNOCENT.

PS I HOPE THAT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS MY LETTER

Hi! I visited your site. I think you've done a great site! But I have things
to say, that needs to be said. If the two mental boys really had problems,
they needed to go to counseling. Even if the parents had no idea what they
were doing. Like one response said, if I had children, I'd be watching
everthing and reading everything to make sure my kids aren't down about
anything. Plus, not a place on the internet should their be a website that
showed someone how to make " bombs ". Them boys killed a black person JUST
because he was black! If they were my kids, they'd not only be grounded for
life, they'd never leave my site! I am only 13. But it's the truth. If
anyone absolutely anyone I knew had done something like that, I'd not only
be upset, very uspet, I'd never visit their grave or have anything to ever
do w/ them! I've heard plenty of things about the shooting. It made me want
to cry. How could someone ever do that? Why would they ever do that? If they
had problems with people at school or anything possible, they should've told
someone..Absolutely no one can solve a problem by shooting a whole bunch of
people, including themselves. If anyone would disagree with me, they also
have problems. Everyone has different opinions about things, but everyone
shouldn't agree with the boys' ( Harris and Klebold ) way to solve a problem
like they had!

i think its disgusting how any 1 could do that!

Columbine High School,
I am a Volunteer Firefighter and I would like to thank Jeff Christ of the Littleton Fire Dept. for
bringing the Columbine Video and Presentation to our city. I am sending my heart out to
those who have been lost in this tragedy. The Emergency Personal did a heck of a job on that
day and I feel it in my heart everytime I hear of the kids lost that day

This is a well put together website which, even though comes from the
emotional side of the victims, tries to (and for the most part) is
successful at viewing the tragedy from all points of view. What I want to
comment on is the abundance of people, both in other discussions, websites
and talk shows and on this site as well that say the problem with all
schools is that we took GOD out school, that we took RELIGION out of our
children's lives. Pardon me? Let's take a look at Palestine. Religion
plays a BIG part of everyone's life there. State mandated prayer in school,
prayer at home, prayer in public. Prayer everywhere. Still, I think I'll
stick with the violence in America rather than have the violence in
prayer-ridden Palestine. You know, let's compare oranges to oranges. There
was a time when prayer and religion was allowed in school. This was around
the same time these same prayerful people thought it was ok to make
"coloreds" drink out of separate water fountains, wait in separate waiting
rooms, sit at the back of the bus, oh...and no one minded when law
enforcement turned a blind eye to a black man being hung...simply for being
black. More people die in the name of God than any crazy gun toting gothic
freak could kill in America. Religion is a band aid. Everyone wants a
simple quick answer. "It's the parents fault" "It's lack of religion"
"It's music and violent video games"...(to quote Marilyn Manson re: the
Columbine Shooting: "What rock lyrics was Cain listening to when he killed
his brother Abel?") Face it folks, there are no easy answers, no one quick
to blame, no ONE person or thing or lack of prayer that is at fault. W/
Columbine specifically, there were too many factors to count.

1. Chemically imbalanced kids
2. Apathetic Parents of Chemically imbalanced kids. (I wonder, if your son
comes home wearing a swastika on his shirt, if it isn't time for a talk?)
3. The "Beautiful People" at Columbine that could do no wrong (jocks
cheerleaders, etc. If you're not wearing the coolest clothes and hang out
with the coolest people, then who are you?)
4. The availability of Guns.
5. Apathetic and/or Uneducated and/or burnt out teachers
6. Cops whose hands are tied. (You can't legislate parents to watch their
kids better)
7. The Media.

The list goes on and on. But if I hear one more "If we had religion in
schools, we wouldn't have this problem" I may puke.

Good luck on your website, and God bless (there's that word again) the
victims

I really feel sorry for the students and parents that had to go through this tragedy. I think that
this is the worst thing in the world that could ever happen to anyone. I just wanted to say that
I'm sorry that anyone had to go through the pain and hurt that these people did. I also feel
that you are right in calling the two murders monsters, and those people that don't think they
are monsters need help and they need to get it fast before they end up like those two
monsters.I think that this web site is very good and you don't need to change a thing. I love
you all that went through this tragedy and so does GOD!

I find your site to be very informative.  I was working third shift the day this happened.  I just so
happen to wake up to get something to drink and had on MSNBC when the flash came
  across...

I couldn't get back to sleep.  So I watched intently...and I have heard the critics blast the cops,
school and everyone else trying to place blame.  Let's place it where it lies.  With the
parents...the obviously had no intention nor concern for their kids activities.  HOW DO YOU
NOT KNOW YOUR KIDS AREN'T BUILDING BOMBS IN YOUR HOUSE!?!?!?!

As for the slow reaction of the SWAT team.  Keep one thing in mind.  Most of the ERT
(Emergency Response Team) was comprised of officers from different departments that had
never done an insertion as a team before.  When you have a "mish-moshed" assemblance,
you have to do it slow or you could REALLY screw up and get more people killed.  If you do
anything, do research on the tactics of SWAT teams.  In an event of this magnatude, covering
an area of such immense footage, you have to do it with surgical precision.  Keep in mind it
was a "mixed" insertion team, so they probably did have to go slower, so they could do the
job a little more carefully.  There was, I believe, only two teams inside and two outside...to
cover the entire campus.  That's a lot of ground to cover by roughly 20 officers.

Also remember; the teams are literally in each other's pocket, each covering a different "line
of fire." One forward, (the pointman),One high-One low (they cover the point man), Two to
each side (the flankers, they cover halways & doors), and One to the rear (walking backwards
he covers the whole team from behind, and literally rubs his butt against the flankers.)

That is only my reasoning as to why it took three hours to clear the building.  They did not put
their lives above the kids and teachers.  They had to make sure they knew the layout, where
most of the doors, rooms and stairwells are.  In most SWAT insertions, they have already seen
and gone over the floorplans, prior to arriving.  If you go in to anything blind, you run the risk
of making one mistake that will totally alter the plans of your original intent; usually to an
  adverse outcome.

Final note:  You ask any cop.  Nowhere, in any law book will you find it.  No cop, by law, has
to put his life on to save the life of another.  BUT!!!  They do it willingly, and without
hesitation.  If they don't...they are covered by the "Good Samaritan Law."  Basically, the don't
have to do anything to prevent your death.  But they do it because they feel the obligation to
protect you and serve you...and if that means never seeing their family again...they do it
  anyway.

Editor: I think your last is a very good point. The only thing I would add, is that anyone, cop or not, who puts his/her life in harm's way, to help others, is a true hero.

I was surfing the internet to find some information on the Columbine High School incident for
a report that I was doing at school.  I clicked on this link that took me to your website, and the
first thing I saw was "Monsters Among Us..."  I was sick when I read this.  They are not monsters
like you claim.  They are to take blame for this horrible massacre literally, but I truthfully
blame the parents and teachers of these poor lost teens.  Where were they when their
child/student was needing help?  Where were they to prevent this blood bath from
happening?  No, these longing boys are not monsters.  They were just lost and had nowhere
  to go.

I apologize for being critical, but I would ask to see the next time I visit this site to see the
heading "Monsters Among Us" changed to something more hopeful.  Where were you in
preventing this?  What can you do in making this not happen again and worse, along with all
of us?  I am 14 and I know what it is like to have the walls closing in on you, and luckily I had
parents there for me and other people I trust.  These however, did not.  I believe that God
loves them just as much as you or I, so why judge?  What will it do to change this
  nightmare?

Editor: Some of us believe that there were, and still are, monsters living among us!

I just want people to know that even though there are many who have not experienced a
tragedy such as Columbine, we still can feel others pain.  The violence in schools has gone
way out of control and we need to stop it.  That is why i have so much respect for all the
students who had to go through so much pain.  I can not even imagine how horrible it would
be, but can only understand it will take a long time to get past everything.  I wish only
happiness and good faith to all who had to go through this tragedy, and i hope you all know
that the victims are safe now from all harm and with someone who cares for them very much
as well as the rest of us.  They are now angels and really always have been. So on this day
instead of remembering all the horrible things that happened at Columbine High please just
smile and remember something good about the people who are no longer with us in person,
but always with us in spirit.  God Bless
