What's New?--Updates
Updates, Feb 16, 2004: I got Valentine presents from Santos and Susan! Yay! Thanks, guys!
Updates, Feb 9, 2004: This page didn't exactly get posted in time. It's real life's fault. Blame real life.
Updates, Feb 1, 2004: Yes, there is, in fact, a special February page this year. It's not the one I had in mind for last year, but maybe I'll get to that idea eventually. I actually created most of my graphics this year. Aren't you guys proud?
Contest: The conversation my sister and I are having on my banner at the top holds a deeper meaning. During the month of February 2004, I am accepting suggestions for what social commentary I am attempting to make. (My sister thinks that my train of thought is so obscure that I should just explain what it means. But that's no fun.) I will post any submissions I receive, and the person who has the closest guess wins a pair of plastic novelty handcuffs. Because I seem to have 9 pairs.
Terrifed? Well, the regular page is here.
The February 2002 Hokey Home.

Everyone's A Comic...
<< Click on the graphic for my discovery.Occasionally, when cleaning your boyfriend's closet, you come across most of the things you have ever given him. Other times, you come across things that you would like him to give to you. And at yet other times, you come across things that you gave to him and want him to give back to you. But this probably happens only to me.
If you are familar with Microsoft Chat, then you know of its comic strip option. It allows you to chat with others as if you are characters in a comic strip. Well, four years ago, I felt frustrated because of a guy who wouldn't go out with me. I created three characters in Microsoft Chat to make a short comic strip about the whole situation, hoping to make myself feel better.
I forgot about the comic for years, until I found the only existing copy in my boyfriend's closet. It seemed fitting to share my past relationship frustrations on my Hokey Anti-Valentine page, so I will post a few panels every week this month until the comic is complete.

Manly Charm Bracelet
<< Click on the graphic for more manly charm. You have to wonder from where the manly charm bracelet originated. Basically, here:
"Hi, Helen! *manly charm*" --Santos G.
"So where do you stash your manly charm when you're not using it?" --Helen L.
"Islands." --Santos G.
"What do you call these islands?" --Helen L.
"Islands. Basically." --Santos G.
"Oh...I thought they might have neat names like 'Santos' Manly Charm Stash' and all." --Helen L.
"Nah...then people would find them. Their names are more like 'Rob' and 'Jackop.' And 'Island.'" --Santos G., 5-3-03
In case that went too quickly for you, the idea of manly charm bracelets came from a conversation with Santos.

Nothing Is Sacred
<< This graphic has nothing to do with where it takes you. My sister and I love parodies. I, in particular, enjoy making fun of everybody and everything.
Have you ever looked through your parents' old photo albums and wondered what they were thinking? I'm not talking about wacky hairstyles or strange clothing. I mean, what were their thoughts right as those photos were taken? Can you believe they were ever that young?
Have you ever looked at photos in textbooks and magazines and wondered if the people depicted in the scene know about the photo? Maybe there's a textbook out there with your photo inside...and a totally bogus caption underneath. Yeah. Well, that thought really had nothing to do with this parody; it's just something I wonder a lot when reading textbooks and such.
Whatever I was talking about, anyway, old photos of my parents are fun to look at. They have lived through experiences far more interesting than mine. I like to ask them about all the jobs they've ever worked and the people they hung out with in high school. Life works in strange ways, and at some point during my life, I got Photoshop. It's really improved my life.
