Work Package 2 - research review

Work Package 2 of the INPART project deals with research on inclusion and work in the countries of the INPART-partners: Belgium, Denmark, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. The Work Package reviews research projects and outcomes into the relation between different forms of work and their inclusive/exclusive potential. The following forms of work are being distinguished: irregular work, subsidized work, targeted training, unpaid work and informal work. Attention is being paid to two perspectives from which research may be carried out: on the one hand research that evaluates labour-market policies (a 'top-down' approach), on the other research assessing households' or individuals' orientations towards work (a 'bottom-up' approach).

The comparative report discussing the results of the work in the context of Work Package 2 is entitled A Comparative Review of Research on Work and Social Inclusion (44 pages). It discusses research projects and their outcomes on the topics described above. Being a preparation for the casestudies that will be carried out in the context of Work Package 3, specific attention is focused on those research projects that are relevant for these casestudies.

The contents of the report:

  • Chapter I: Introduction
  • Chapter II: Irregular Work
  • Chapter III: Subsidized Work
  • Chapter IV: Targeted Training
  • Chapter V: Unpaid Work
  • Chapter VI: Informal Work
  • Chapter VII: Conclusions

The report also contains a extensive bibliography. The report was edited by Jan de Schampheleire (Studygroup in Technological, Economic and Social Change and Labour Market of the Free University of Brussels) and by Soledad Garcia and Aitor Gómez (Department of Sociology of the University of Barcelona).

Apart from the comparative report, an annex is published (ca. 200 pages) containing the national reports on research on inclusion and work on which the comparative report is based.
