Dalgaard Knights
Dalgaard Knights, easily distinguishable by their black enameled armor with silver runes, are strong warriors who mix metal with magic. They don’t swear any oaths, and serve no gods directly, but are similar to Paladins in the fierce way they seek to exact punishment on evil doers. However, unlike Paladins Dalgaard Knights have no great respect for any kings or laws, and are often seen as only one step above those that they exact revenge upon. Their history is old, forgotten to all but them, but as a whole they honor their creeds to the death, and will hunt down members of their own order with as much vengeance as any evil doers, if not more so, when they feel it necessary. Unfortunately, the Dalgaard Knights are plagued with centuries of betrayals that have stripped them of any honor they once had in the eyes of the people.

Gentlemen of the White Shield
The Gentlemen of the White Shield are the militant arm of the Church of Bale the Fire-handed. While they worship their god fanatically, he is just a lesser god; however his power grows with each new convert. His congregation is good at heart, but they have a feverish disrespect for man ruling over man, and do have hostile confrontations with the nobility. They seek justice violently, but only in the name of their god, so their view of what is just doesn’t coincide peacefully with the rulers of the lands they live in. Primarily they seek to convert all of Terra Firma to the worship of Bale, at sword point if necessary. All of their members uphold the strictest standards of appearance, and are distinguishable by a white surcoat with the fire-hand symbol over the heart and a white cape with silver lining. They are all militant, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Confrontations between the Gentlemen of the White Shield and Paladins of St. Cuthbert have been known to break down into bloodshed.

Highland Rangers
The Highland Rangers (Highlanders) are an elite group of Rangers headquartered in Crese. Their official job is to aid the Kingdom troops in policing the Tradeway between Reme and Crese. However, it is a well known fact that they are most often used to monitor events and movements in and around the Stonelands. Each of these select Highlanders is well trained to survive the hostile magics loosed on those barren planes.

Kingdom Regulars
The Kingdom of Alexia has the largest, if not the best, army in all of Terra Firma. However, the majority of these soldiers are considered to be ‘Regulars’. They are commissioned, and trained, but they are only a step above militia. They are usually uniformly equipped with chain mail armor, a short sword and a spear, as these are the only weapons with which they are likely to have had formal training. Some have had training in archery, and carry bows. For those that are not proficient with bows, the Army distributes one heavy crossbow per twenty soldiers.

Order of Time
Very little is publicly known about the Order of Time. They are stationed out of Alexia in a quaint mansion that has been renovated over the centuries to house the greatest library in the world in a series of catacombs beneath. They are mixture of wizards and clerics, adventuring warriors and royal guards, all banded together for the single task of restoring knowledge to the world. In this task they are only semi-successful. With their old age they have grown withdrawn and so absorbed in their tasks that they abhor mingling with outsiders, and while they have the greatest collection of histories, technologies, sciences and religious works, they guard them greedily, and so they profit nothing. Within the Order of Time there are many branches, but two of the most important are the Order of Day and the Order of Night. The two orders work to recover magical tomes and artifacts from the past in an effort to restore the magical might that they believe was once common on Terra Firma. The rift that has developed between them lies in the fact that the Order of Day values only the magics of good origin and purpose, while the Order of Night believes all magic has value and deserves to be understood. These differing schools of thought have culminated in the succession of the Order of Night completely from the Order of Time, and hostilities between the differing orders grow daily.

Waymarshals
The Waymarshals are mounted troops commissioned by the Duke to patrol their boundaries and provide protection and aid to the populace. Unlike other troops, the Waymarshals are primarily Rangers and not warriors and fighters. (In the Duchy of Raedry, Waymarshals are called Waymarch Sheriffs, and in the Duchy of Velun they are sometimes called Foresters or Mounted Borderers)
