Who We Are

Welcome to the Benjamin Banneker Dog Exercise Area! The continuing operation of this dog park depends entirely on us, Banneker Dogs, Inc., an association established and financed by park users. We sponsor this park under a mandatory agreement with Arlington County which has made a committment to provide fencing, signage, a kiosk, a picnic table, benches and a water supply. Future park improvements and regular maintenance will depend on continuing financial support from the County Board and park users.

Not long ago it seemed we might lose the privileges of off-leash dog exercise areas in Arlington County. But with a lot of hard work and input from concerned Arlingtonians, especially ArlingtonDogs, the County was convinced of the need to adopt, implement and fund new standards for Arlington's Dog Exercise Areas (DEAs).

Today, our dog park is here to stay, but only as long as we, through Banneker Dogs, carry out our agreed responsibilities to:

• Educate park users on DEA rules.
• Ensure that the Park is kept free of animal waste.
• Address complaints from park users, and act as liaison between users and local residents.
• Raise funds to help pay for park improvements.
• Report maintenance needs to the County.
• Maintain liaison with Arlington County Animal Control.
