World War I Magazine
The First Collaborative Project: Some Opening Remarks
The World War I Magazine is the first attempt at developing a collaborative project through the internet. We hope that this will be the first of many projects involving schools from around the world. The teachers and students involved in this project, I believe, represent the vast potential that technology is bringing to education. The ability of faculty and students from around the world to communicate and exchange ideas is exciting, interesting and opens up endless possibilities.
I definitely have to say that it has been great developing this project and watching how it has grown. Mike Schneider and John DeVincentis are treasured colleagues whose intelligence and creativity have provided great fuel for this endeavour. I look forward to continued work with these exceptional teachers. I am also looking forward to working with the students from the other schools involved.
I must mention that this project would not be possible without the tremendous enthusiasm of the Level IV ISA World History class. Colin Styker has worked very hard on the technical aspects of the magazine and his ideas and creativity bring a great deal of professionalism to this project. I could never talk about an internet project without mentioning Shawn Rizzoli (a 17 year old computer mastermind!). At the end of this project, I'll write a retrospective on the process and some of the highlights.
