Blaine Wilson jumped onto the American scene two years ago by winning the NCAA's. He won the All Around, and his team, Ohio State, won the Team competition. At the National Championships, he beat the likes of John Roethlisberger, Chainey Umphrey, and Jair Lynch for the All Around crown. The next month, Blaine took second to John at the Olympic Trials which guaranteed him a place on the Olympic Team

After an impressive 12th place All Around finish at preliminaries of the Olympics, Blaine made All Around finals and wound up in 10th at the end of the day. He still had one more day of competition, Ring Finals. At Ring finals, Blaine was the only American. He did his best but ended up in 7th place.

When the Olympics were over, Blaine decided to continue training in hopes for another sweep of the NCAA's. In 1997, he won the All Around there, but Ohio State lost to Cal-Berkley. He continued to train at O.S.U. for the upcoming National Championships and the World Championships later that year.

Again, Blaine showed everyone what he was made of when he won the National Title for the second year in a row. He looked posed to make an impact at the World Championships in Lausanne the following month.

At Lausanne, Blaine led his American team to an impressive 5th place finish. He also qualified for the All Around finals.

In the All Around finals Blaine was as high as 1st. He was in that spot until the fourth rotation. Blaine fell on High Bar which led to a 3rd place after the fourth rotation out of six. The rest of the night went downward from there. He lost connection bonus on Floor which lowered his start value. He also fell on Pommel Horse in the last rotation. By the end of the night, Blaine was in 10th, the same rank he had in Atlanta.

Since then, Blaine has been working out at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. His new coaches are Ron Brant and Vitaly Marinich.

In early 1998, Blaine won the Winter Cup Nationals. He then won the Visa American Cup in April over world-silver medalist, Alexei Bonderenko of Russia. He is training for the upcoming National Championships and the Goodwill Games this July.
