Mono Loop Queets River G.P.
For Step-by Step-Instructions Hover Mouse Over Corresponding Image What I like about this pattern is that the brass eyes not only allow the fly to sink, but it also sinks belly down first - the way a real creature would. The floss and herl allow for a lot of leg wiggle. The fly needs to track evenly, not canted over as so many unbalanced flies do. The squirrel tail/calf tail isn’t prone to foul, with just enough flex in the water, to make the fly dart around in the current, just a crayfish would The rear mono loop accomplishes two goals. First, it allows for an interchangeable hook and second. Fished over steelhead tend to get nippy with angling pressure. Can’t tell you the number of steelhead we have hooked with this fly, right in the nose, who decided to take a nip.
