Courtesan (Variation) Tied by Stu Farnham
This variation of the Courtesan (which see) has a different color scheme than the earlier version presented by Stu Farnham. See Stu's notes below for an explanation. This is the 6th in the series of Syd Glasso flies presented by Stu Farnham. You can see more of Stu's flies at The Flies of Stu Farnham. Stu's Notes: "When I started tying the entire set of Syd Glasso's steelhead flies for this series, I was struck by how dominant the color orange was in the wings and bodies of many of the flies. The variations I found in Bob Taylor's collection provide a broader range of colors, from the yellow floss and hackle in the Sol Duc through the darker orange and browns of the Brown Heron. The fly that I found most changed by these variations was the Courtesan. In the conventional tie, it is essentially an Orange heron with brown hackle. The version in Bob Taylor's collection also substitutes red body feathers from a golden pheasant for the more typical orange hackle tip wings. Finding GP body feathers of the right length and shape for the wing, with sufficiently fine stems to tie in properly, continues to be a challenge."
