Leons Fritz 'Assassin'
Originated and Tied by Guthrie Fly
Name | Leons Fritz Assassin |
Category | Atlantic Salmon/Steelhead |
Hook | Kamasan Classic Lure Extra Long Size 8 |
Tail | Red Wool |
Body 1 | Weighted with lead wire first; tie both ends of lead wire with thread; super glue to stop any lead wire slipping. Now tail.
|
Tail | Marabou Turkey (RED) applied on top of the hook & bind thread evenly |
Body 2 | Now apply (Silver Ribbon) or substitute from hook bend to end of lead wire and tie off; add little super glue. Now apply Lureflash FRITZ (Yellow) half way along hook shank 3 or 4 turns, tie off and super glue. Now apply Lureflash FRITZ (RED) 3 or 4 turns, tie off and super glue. Now hackle. |
Hackle | Indian Cock Cape (Black) select fairly large hackle, This also helps to stabilize if using Dipper Vane, wind on hackle, I usually put a little super glue while winding on. Then tie off, use fingers to push back the hackle, and build head. |
Head | Build head round and large with black thread, then apply Fast Set Clear Epoxy Glue, then paint on eye White with Black Dot. When dry apply more epoxy glue. |
Dipper Vane | Fitted but Optional (See Leon's Dipper Vane) |
Comments | Very Effective, check your knots when using this pattern! Salmon, Steelhead, Rainbow, Brown Trout all take this pattern. Lureflash Fritz is a product of
Lureflash International Limited, Kilnhurst, England. Visit their website to obtain purchasing information. |
Fishing Tips | Retrieve with 1 foot pulls, stopping on occasion to allow to sink, also good pattern for trolling. |
This pattern was originated and tied by Leon Guthrie of Galashiels, Scotland. The Dipper Vane (which see), is an invention that Leon uses to add action to some of his flies. Leon writes about this fly, "Catch anything with this one, Trust Me!"
You can see many more flies from Leon by visiting his page on this
site, The Flies of Leon Guthrie.
