Winter Green

Name Winter Green
Category Pacific Salmon
Hook Size 2/0 to 2, Salmon Hook of Choice
Thread Red
Body Silver diamond braid
Wing Chartreuse bucktail, sparse; topped with a few strands of silver holographic tinsel
Head Red

This simple fly has been responsible for taking more chum salmon than any other fly I have ever used. It is quick and easy to tie, making it a nice fly for the box and not too hard on the pocketbook if you lose a few on hard charging fish. Also, its sleek profile allows it to swim to deeper water without adding a lot of weight.

These variations worked equally well when the water conditions changed. I used the variation with the bead chain eyes when the water was rising and the barbell eyes for higher water conditions. They are both tied with pearl diamond braid bodies and pearl flashabou topping.
