John Glaspy Flies

Hook	Size 1.5-1/0 Alec Jackson or equivalent, gold preferred
Thread	Chartreuse, bright and waxed if possible
Weight	30 turns of .15 lead
Tag	Gold holo tinsel (omit on gold hook)
Tail	Yellow over white marabou, 1.5 x hook gap
Body	Rear half: bright green SLF or Antron dubbing; front half: hot orange antron or SLF dubbing
Rib	Rear body half: large gold holographic Mylar tinsel wound and small gold oval tinsel counter-wound; front body half: small silver wire wound through hackles
Hackle	(Over front half of body only) rearward portion: two-three turns of orange burnt Spey; frontmost portion: two-three turns of chartreuse burnt Spey
Wing	Chartreuse bunny, zonker style, short "overtail,"with hide same length as marabou
Collar	Guinea dyed highland green
Head	Green thread egg, epoxyed

Tying Instructions

1. Wind 30 wraps of .15 lead wire on front portion of fly, then start thread and cover hook.
2. If using a black hook, tie in, wind, tie off and trim the gold mylar tag.
3. Tie in the marabou tails, white then yellow, with length 1.5 times the hook gap
4. Measure, cut and tie in bunny strip, zonker-style, with tag hide equal in length to the marabou. Tie off, whip finish and cement knot on bottom, being careful not to get cement on bunny hair. (It helps to dampen and separate the bunny hair at the tie in point. I use a bobbin threader to whip finish by winding around the threader 5 times, then cutting thread and putting the cut end through the threader loop.)
5. Restart the thread at rear of fly, tie in gold mylar on top, oval tinsel on bottom.
6. Dub forward over rear half of body, then wind mylar, tie off, counterwind oval tinsel and tie off.
7. Tie in small silver wire at this body half-way point.
8. Tie in orange Spey hackle.
9. Add orange dubbing, and dub forward covering half of the remaining hook. 10. Wind the orange Spey forward, and tie off.
11. Tie in chartreuse Spey hackle.
12. Dub the remaining body forward, leaving room for head.
13. Wind the chartreuse Spey hackle forward and tie off.
14. Wind the small silver wire through the Spey hackles, being careful not to bind down any fibers and tie off. (I try to take twice as many turns as I did of for hackles, so that hackles are very reinforced)
15. Bring bunny strip tight over body and tie off.
16. Tie in, wind, and tie off the guinea collar.
17. Use thread to form small egg, tie off, then cover head with clear 5 minute epoxy, Rotate until tacky then set aside to dry.
