Rusty Bum Variant
Rusty Bum Variant was tied by William Lovelace, one of the most prolific contributors on this site. You can find many more of his flies at his page on this site, The Flies of William Lovelace. Bill's Notes: This is my dubbed Steelhead variant inspired by a nice little #12 trout soft hackle the Rusty Berlin Bum created by “letumgo”. He used Berlin Wool yarn and a solid Brown Hen Hackle on the original. About the Soft Hackle Series: I am someone who likes to use traditional soft hackles for trout. It carries over into tying steelhead flies. One of my favorite steelhead series is Alec Jackson’s Spades and they are essentially soft hackles tied with a particular variation of incorporating the deer hair in their construction. Soft Hackles quick and easy to tie in sea run trout sizes are worth a try in any steelheaders’ fly boxes.
