O-Spider

O-Spider - A William Lovelace Fly

Name O-Spider
Category Trout
Hook #18 scud hook
Tail Krystal Flash
Body Olive thread
Hackle Dun (soft hackle)
Fishing TipsFished as a trailer

This fly was developed by Bill Lovelace to fish tandem behind a Wooly Bugger. It was one of his hot flies on a favorite river the last time he fished it.

Bill's Notes: The fly is something I am just developing in a few colors to try. I call it an O spider- an olive thread bodied soft hackle tied on a #18 scud hook with a short Krystal flash tail and a Dun soft hackle. I often fish tandem flies like this in lakes as well. If nothing is happening on top I will often go to a dragon or damsel nymph fished tandem with another fly or two. A great book for this is  Fishing Tandem Flies: Tactics, Techniques, and Rigs to Catch More Trout ... by Charles Meck.
