This is another version of Fool's Gold was tied by Salmonfly.Net Contributing Fly Tyer William Lovelace for the Salmonfly.Net issue "All that Glitters is not Gold". This version, was came from a different source (see Bill's notes below), which accounts for the difference in materials from the first fly in this series.

Read more about William Lovelace and see more of his flies at The Flies of William Lovelace.

Bill's Notes: This pattern comes from Trey Comb’s book Steelhead Fly Fishing and Flies.

Webmaster Notes: To get a full appreciation of the history of flies like Fool's Gold, you might be interested in picking up some of the literature mentioned by Bill. For instance, after listing the pattern for Fool's Gold, Trey Combs writes almost a whole page about Mike Kennedy, the originator. We are so inundated with new fly tying materials and "innovative" flies today, we often forget that many of these older flies were then, and still are very successful in their own right, fished under the right conditions.
