Barbie Fly
Tube flies have been popular in Europe and Scandinavia for quite some time, but have not gained a significant foothold in North America. Fortunately for us, Yuri has had the opportunity to fish his flies for Pacific salmon and they have proven quite successful. You can see more of Yuri's flies at The Flies of Jurij (Yuri)Shumakov. YURI'S NOTES: Relatively new way of tying flies. It belongs to family of "halfinchers" developed in Sweden. These type of flies are very popular in Scandinavia and Russia now. As I said, the hook placed closer to the head of fly reduces the possibility of badly damaging the fish with a deep take. Such flies with a short body and a long wing have very nice and attractive silhouette in water. Worked best on moderate current with the fly presentation right under surface. This fly, together with the Pink Toy was an absolute favourite to bring Silver salmon females to the bank of river. For information about the tubes Yuri uses to tie his flies and for more of his patterns, read his article in the Rackelhanen Flyfishing Magazine.
