Very awe inspiring view. The visitor centers are very well done, but the best on is at the very top of the lookout mountain. It's named after the National Park geologist that called in the famous radio signal just before being overwhelmed by the blast "Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it!" The Dennis Johnston center has an excellent video and display. We highly recommend this trip for all who visit Washington. The first visitor's center at St. Helens. After 20 years, still very desolate. You can see the path the hot mud flow took as it traveled down the valley. In the background is Mt. Adams, and on the right is Mt. St. Helens.
They said that Bigfoot lives in this area. Here's some footprint castings.
You can see the Elk from the lookouts on the way up. No, you can't get this close! This a picture of a picture that was in the exhibit hall. |
