   2009 News  

  • The weather in the area has been terrible for the past few weeks, because of the two winter storms that have hit the coal fields.

  • The roads here in Gordon/Y&O have been destroyed because of the winter weather and coal trucks. Rumors has been mentioned that the roads will have to be repaved due to so many potholes.

  • To start the year off, why not a new website. Well this site hasn't been taken care of like it use too. So we have decided to take better care and give what the viewers would like to see.

2008 News

  • Gordon Union Church held it's apple butter festival last Thursday  on Oct. 2, 2008. If you would like to purchases any jars of apple butter, please contact Roger Nelson at 304-245-8071 or Phil Rowe at 304-245-8406. Get your supply while they last.

  • It's almost Halloween that means another good year of trick or treating for Gordon and Y&O. This year trick or treat will be held on a Thursday due to the game on Friday. 

  • It's Spring here in Gordon and Y&O, so spring/summer pictures will be added frequently to the site. We are working on a Scenery Album already from picture taken already.

  • Frazier Creek Mining will be cutting into Roach. The judge finally released their permit for the box cut into Roach. Some say the hollow will be gated off, so nobody will be disturbing their equipment.

  • Rumor say the DEP will be making changes in the area of Y&O. The houses behind the tracks, have mine cracks in the hill side behind their home. Due from the past people getting house coal for their homes. Apparently the DEP will be covering those up.

  • We are trying something different with our picture page. We have put them into albums which creates icons on the left an a bigger picture on the right. By clicking on the picture brings it up bigger and click on the button to print even bring it bigger for everyone to print the picture or view it better.

  • More Thief's: There have been more suspect spotted burning copper up in the Hollar of Roach. Black smoke filled the air causing elderly to loose their breath.

  • To Whom It May Concern: If you have relatives that are buried at the Mid-Ferrell Cemetery in Bandytown, WV. There will be a meeting held at the Van Community Center on March 22 to discuss the future of the cemetery.

  • Do to Thief's no more riding in the Duck Branch and Frank Legg Hollow anymore. Thief's have been stealing batteries from light plants from Pine Ridge Coal Company. By them stealing the batteries makes the men of Pine Ridge Coal Company work unsafely next to their settlement (slurry) pond.

  • Election Time is here again, election signs have been popping up all around the area. There are several people running for different positions, vote for the one that you'll think does the best for the job. So get out there and vote for you country and your county.

  • Strong Winds around the area has blown trees down across the area. Several on Power Lines which lead to a major forest fire that endangered many residents around the Y&O area. Between the rain and snow it has brought the raging fire to a halt.

  • New Picture are being added to the Y&O section.  If anyone would like to notify us on who might be in some of the old photos please do. If anyone would like to donate pictures to Gordon or Y&O please email them to gordonspy_gs@hotmail   Another thing is many changes have came about to the site. So please add a comment by signing the guest book.

  • It has been extremely cold here in West Fork, during this cold spurt there was a house fire in the upper end of Gordon. The where about is somewhere around Frank Legg Hollow.

  • Due to the fact of Mountain Huggers and neighboring communities have drawn attention to Mountain Top Removal, Frazier Creek Mining cannot get permits to have the Valley Fill after already clearing area off to have it and built settlement ponds.

  • Frazier Creek Mining Company has cleared out a area for a Valley Fill in Roach Hollow. Settlement Ponds have been put into place for the valley fill.

  • Crime Wave: Many Resident's of Y&O and Gordon have had belongings stolen. If things haven't been stolen check for gas tanks because gas also has been stolen right out of vehicles and boats. Verizon was spotted working on Woodrail Lane.

  • Due to the weather School in Boone County had a Snow Day. Please Drive Safely.

 2007 News

  • Frazier Creek Mining Company has paid for the road to be repaved from where their coal trucks enter the road to the rail road tracks at Johnny Hill.

  • Roach has been clear cut in one section of the hollow. The reason for this is Frazier Creek Coal Company is going to put one of many Valley Fills in that section.

  • Bad Weather: Local flooding and Mud Slides have terrible threats to all Boone County Citizens.

  • On April 2, 2007 a freak accident occurred in Bandytown, WV. A Special Needs Bus was hit by 4 trees that randomly fell off the hill side beside the road. No body was hurt in the accident. If anyone would like to see pictures please check out www.bandytown.com

  • Important Message from Web Master: We are expanding this web site. We are concluding the Y&O Area as well as Sand Field Area as well.

  • "Click it or Ticket it" There was a Suspicious Road Check at the Mouth of Gordon on March 21, 2007. They gave some tickets but none went to jail. Then they left from there and went to assist a cop in Gordon. Unknown Reasons.

  • IMPORTANT!!!  Rumors say there is a official site of Gordon, West Virginia. Well if you have found yourself here, the rumors are true. Gordon has hit the world wide web with full blast and is going to keep people on there toes with the new! If your Here browse around and look at what the web has to offer.

  • Crime Watch: People in the Area of Gordon have had Gasoline stolen right out of their Vehicles and there boats. So People please keep close eye on your vehicles.

  • To Fellow ATV Riders: Going across Roach Hollow will not be able for to to much longer because Jupiter Coal has already started widening the road for their huge equipment. The plan is to strip the hollow out.
