The following has been taken from Reuters:

And the new Windows theme music? Observers have wondered what song Microsoft would pick to promote Windows XP after the company paid millions of dollars to The Rolling Stones for use of their hit 'Start Me Up' in Windows 95 ads.

After listening to hundreds of songs, Ferguson said she and her team settled on Madonna's 'Ray of Light'. "It's powerful, it's upbeat, it's positive, it fits with the theme, which is 'Yes You Can','' Ferguson said. Ferguson declined to say how much Microsoft was paying for use of the song, and also declined to give details of how much of the overall $200 million would be spent on ads alone.

Apart from TV spots, Microsoft will also roll out print ads in magazines and newspapers, banner ads online and billboards in major cities, Ferguson said. "This is going to be a pretty loud launch. We'll have a pretty strong presence,'' Ferguson said.

The company is also going ahead with an Oct. 25 launch party in New York City. After the Sept. 11 attacks in which hijackers slammed passenger jets into New York's World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., killing 5,600 people, Microsoft considered canceling the event. " We did have discussions about, is Oct. 25 still the launch date? Is New York still an appropriate venue?'' Shawn Sanford, group product manager for Windows, told reporters.

But the party got the green light again after New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke directly with Microsoft co-founder and Chairman Bill Gates, Sanford said.

Asked if Madonna would perform at the event, Sanford and Ferguson paused with smiles on their faces and glanced at each other before Sanford said people would have to wait and see.

Madonna's new film has had its name changed to Love, Sex, Drugs And Money. It was originally called Swept Away. Work on the film is due to begin in Malta and Sardinia today, with Guy Ritchie directing.

Madonna plays Amber, a rich, spoilt woman who goes on a Mediterranean cruise with a group of friends. She gets bored with the holiday and begins a love-hate relationship with young Italian fisherman Giusuppe when they are castaway on a deserted island during a boat trip, reports screendaily.co.uk. Other members of the cast include Bruce Greenwood, who played President Kennedy in Thirteen Days, and Jeanne Tripplehorn who co-starred alongside Hugh Grant in Mickey Blue Eyes.

This Article has been taken from DotMusic.com:

William Orbit has signed up a host of big name stars to perform on his upcoming debut pop album, including Madonna, Beck, Dido and Beth Orton. The high profile producer is close to completing the as-yet-untitled record, due for release in April 2002. Record label bosses claim the forthcoming record is completely unique despite its fundamental pop backbone. "Based upon what I have heard so far, I think the record will be something extraordinary", said a spokesman for the BMG label. Orbit moved into the realms of superstar producer following his work on hugely successful albums, including Blur's '13' and Madonna's 'Ray Of Light'. The renowned producer is not new to recording his own music having recently released an album of classical interpretations, 'Pieces In A Modern Style', as well as his work on dance project, 'Bassomatic'.

Angelfire is participating in the national fundraising for the Red Cross. Everywhere I go, It seems that people are eager to help and I have heard of many donations. Madonna was very generous in donating all the money from the sales of concert tickets on one of her shows to the children who were orphaned because of the tragedy. Anyways, if you wanna participate in this click on the ribbon below.

In memory of all those who have perished yesterday morning; the passengers and pilots on the USAir and AA flights, the workers in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and all the innocent bystanders. My prayers go out to the friends and family of the deceased.

This is a very tragic thing that will affect many people. I can only pray that something good can come from this. This is such a big thing and as for me (individually speaking) it really makes me realize that there are much more important things in life than how you look, what you wear, or any of those other things we tend to worry about. It's time to look at the big picture, and focus on the positive.

As for Madonna news, she has postponed her last two shows in LA. There should either be a refund or a reschedule of the missed concert date.

The following story is by Reuters:

Director Guy Ritchie and wife Madonna are set to work together on the big-screen for the first time, with a remake of Lina Wertmuller's 1975 movie "Swept Away." Madonna will take the lead role as a spoiled rich woman who goes on a yachting holiday with friends in the Mediterranean and gets entangled in an unlikely romance with a communist sailor.

The picture, Ritchie's third feature, marks a dramatic departure from the stylized London gangster milieu of his previous movies, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch."

Sources close to Ritchie said he was drawn to the idea of filming a love story with a strong female lead, in contrast to the male-dominated world of his previous pictures.

Ritchie, who married Madonna last year, shot her recent video What It Feels Like for a Girl. She also made an uncredited appearance in his BMW ad Star. Friends of Ritchie said these experiences convinced the couple they could work together successfully on the big-screen.
Wertmuller's original Italian-language movie starred Mariangelo Melato and Giancarlo Giannini. Few details are available of Ritchie's production, which has been kept firmly under wraps, but the picture is understood to be scheduled to shoot this fall. Ritchie has penned the adaptation.

"Swept Away" is currently being financed by private sources of Ska Films, the production company Ritchie runs with producing partner Matthew Vaughn, but a deal with a Hollywood studio is expected soon. Madonna's last movie was The Next Best Thing, with Rupert Everett.

Ritchie's next project after "Swept Away" is likely to be "The Siege of Malta," a crusader pic based on his original screenplay. It is planned for production next spring.
